I can't even bear the heat outside today, I had to come in for a glass of water and a rest. This should not happen in spring.
hottest April on record!
hottest April on record!
Apparently up by 1oC on previous record... this is unbearable... have we totally fried the planet?

It is also one of the driest Aprils on record Forecasters say the weather is comparable with the drought of 1976 and the situation is not about to change.Annpan wrote:Apparently up by 1oC on previous record... this is unbearable... have we totally fried the planet?![]()

My allotment is looking decidedly parched do you think the song 'April showers' will be something we will have to explain to the next generation? Yes it used to rain in April!

Very dry up here - we were having trouble with our water levels in the summer last year and there has been very little rain over the winter/spring so far.

we watered our garden throughout April - and as our water butts are not close to the veg bed - that involved a lot of lugging watering cans about!

We had 16.5mm of rain in April which is probably less than most summer months!
We did get 14mm over Tues and Weds with a nice thunderstorm, but as I was weeding (and repairing chook damage) the soil was still really dry underneath the surface, especially under leafy shrubs.
However I had a good overspill from several of the water butts (we have an overflow hose and put buckets under that) so the shrubs got a really good watering.
Oh and I have a rainfall gauge, best little (plastic!) widget I ever bought! Now I can be a real anorak about rain or lack of it.

I have a little widget on my browser that is suposed to give the forecast for the next week. I keep having rain forecast but nothing and then it swaps for the next day and still nothing. My barometer is even getting it wrong when that was normally wright all the time, apparently it is going to rain

Hey Nev, they don't know what they are growling about Eh!
Ewe buggers up there are taking all that global warming and leaving none for us.
We had the coldest December of record and that was in the midle of 5 months that were way below average.
And sign of your drought breaking over there Nev?
