Do anything else that is not selfsufficientish??

Post: # 58067Post Andy Hamilton »

Being selfsufficientish can take up a lot of time and I don't really do anything else. Once I have done my writing for the day, read up on what I need to, been to the allotment, cooked my food, pickled or frozen any surplus, brewed some beer or wine, gone out foraging and sewed up some old socks it is time for bed.

I decided last week that I would look into doing something unrelated and positive to improve my wellbeing and have signed up for a tai chi class at my local health center.

Actually I do enjoy going down the pub every now and then too. :drunken:

So what about you lot, do you do anything else???

I am an avid dog owner. I do 2 miles before work and 2 miles in the evening with the dog.

I also attend a training club twice a week with my doggie and take part in Flyball training.

Generally, if I'm not in the garden/greenhouse, I'm out with the dog!

I own dogs, work as a nurse, and do computer game coding as a hobby. A bit varied!

I look after my baby full-time

Selfsufficientish is what I do when I am not doing that   - I have bingo nightt twice a week (I kid on I am going to the bingo but I actually go into the garden plant stuff) and every few days I have a sit down and a cup of tea... I long for the days that I had free time  , I do believe I used to watch lots of films and one day I might find my guitar under the baby stuff.

When I'm not revising and doing exams (8 more to go!!) I sing in a choir and read as many books as I can get my hands on. I have been known to write things, went salsa dancing for a while and intend to go back, and used to do lots of voluntary work helping other students and immigrants in Oxford. Oh, and walking.

But I don't have an allotment, or a job, or a baby yet!
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

Should add to my post above that I do have a full time job to attend to also (amongst the gardening and dog training!)

Would be a lot easier if I didn't have a job, but then we wouldn't have a house either!

I've got my job and i like making things.

It goes in phases - i've made bird houses, and jewellery, and i'm halfway through making a ouija board, some chain maille, some knitting, some wine, and a patchwork throw!

One day i'll finish them all.

Oh...and i'm an avid Jeremy Kyle fan, so he tends to take up a couple of hours when i get home from work!!

I am Mum to my 5 year old and wife to my hubby. I also like to meditate (when I get 10 minutes) and give Reiki treatments to friends. I have a great social life here in France with other mums, English and French. I go to a lot of the school trips to help out - swimming classes, zoo trips etc. I have french lessons. I walk my dogs. I shop. I have a pretty damn good life actually

So what about you lot, do you do anything else???
I work from home (a writer) so can afford to just dump work when I want and go and spend a morning in the garden, or in the kitchen pickling and preserving, or cooking and freezing. LOL If I didn't work from home I doubt I'd be able to do it. It does take up a lot of time, and I can understand most people preferring to just head off to the supermarket.

Of course, with another deadline looming, that's always a good excuse to let the weeds get a little out of hand!

As Stoney put it (succinctly!!) Don't you think that being selfsufficientish isn't something you do but rather something you are - so that way its a bit hard not to do something "else"! Even the other stuff that we do is wholistic/community orientated/frugal/"green" orientated etc etc etc!!
We spent until almost midnight last night on the garden swing, in front of the chimnera, burning scrap wood (cadged from the joiner at work), watching the birds/bats/ stars/ last eves light and talking - oh and discussing the fact that we could use the left over ash to make lye for our own soap!!
We've grown to love this way of life - its lots more exciting, and interesting with lots more to learn and further to go than the way we used to live! I guess being self sufficientish is, for us, our other thing!! lol
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
