Rough Week

Post: # 59266Post Wombat »

Warning! Whinge alert, in case of boredom switch to another thread.

Well it's my first week back and I have walked into the thick of it.

Long story short two and a bit years a friend and colleage was killed in a construction accident, I was intimately involved in the investigation.......difficult.

I now have the pleasure of being intimately involved in the defense case for another friend and colleage who is being prosecuted over the incident. I have been going over the prosecution brief in detail to make comment and am finding the going just as difficult. It has ripped open an number of old wounds and I even had a mini fall-apart session in Mrs Wombats arms tonight.

I have several months of this to look forward to. As our MD said "it is a hard business, you lose a friend and then they prosecute you.

Thanks for letting me vent :cussing:

I´m sorry nev, that sucks.

Like all things, it will pass. Just take care of yourself in the meantime.

That sounds awful, Nev. As if going back to work wasn't bad enough in itself.

Is there not some way you can defer the case to someone else on this? I mean you can hardly be expected to be impartial. And friends could easily become enemies in the course of this sort of thing.

Thanks Shirl, Red and Stew!

Unfortunately because of my profession and my involvement this is not stuff I can defer to someone else. As the OHS manager I am up to my eyeballs in it whether I like it or not. Even if he weren't a mate it would be my duty to support Rob through this anyway, but certainly knowing that he does need my support will keep my shoulder to the wheel etc. It is difficult to maintain a professional reserve but i am doing my best. I will get there in the end, but admit that I am hurting at the moment.

Thanks again all, for the kind sentiments

Well I know what you are going through mate after having a few deaths of people close in the last few months. It is strange how somethings can trigger it off again. (I am feeling a bit choked just writing this). It is all part of the process and you would not be human if it didn't get to you again, especially as you have to go through it all again.

I have found that talking to people who had nothing to do my grandparents or my friend really has helped as has going away for a bit. Despite the fact that you have already had some time off perhaps you and Mrs Wombat could have a weekend away somewhere? Even a night in a hotel or B&B in Sydney might be good, just to get some perspective on the situation. It's the sort of thing that works for me.

My thoughts are with you mate and there is a big hug going across the globe for you. Pick up the phone if you like mate, be happy to have a chat.

Nev, my thoughts are also with you having to cope and relive it all again. It is the curse of health and safety that we do our absolute level best to protect people but have to deal with the awful consequences of things going wrong and unfortunately they always have to find someone to blame. Take care of yourself. Cassie

Nev, I wish there was some other and better way to help you, but all I can say - my thoughts are with you, and I hope you find the strength to get through.

HUGS Nev,

I'm not so smiley myself  I lost a dear old friend Friday night-funeral tomorrow and I don't do funerals well. :pale:

Suggestion? Can you find work where you wouldn't get involved in things like this?

You've got a great brain, and are definitely talented in the self-sufficiency department.

Did you do any thinking on your time off about making a permanent change to a quieter life?

If not, think on it now and discuss it with Mrs. Wombat.

Might be a good time for a change, if you can do it.

HUGS and sympathy (too far to send tea  )

Lois

Oh Nev. That is a tough thing to go through. Best of luck mate, I hope it goes OK. You wouldn't be human if it didn't affect you. Just keep on using it as an excuse to hug Mrs W.

And sympathies to Yugogypsy and Andy. Losing dear friends is tough.
