cave dwelling

Oh, that's great! They'll probably get more than the GBP 25,000. I know If I lived in the UK and could spare the money I'd go for it. No way you could find 5 acres of ground here for that money, so in my view you get the wonderful cave house for free :-)

If it had at least 3 bedrooms I'd seriously consider it!!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

how much is a £25000 mortgage per month?

That is something to seriously seriously think about! Even if you had to sell a couple of acres (to organic agriculture!!!!) it would be a worthwhile investment.

Guide prices are rarely what they portray themselves to be... all it means is that they are selling at auction and this is possibly the lowest that the current owners would expect... still, it looks great, a real life hobbit hole.

Fee, a 25 year repayment mortgage of 25K at 7% will be about £177 per month. But now that it's made the national news I suspect it will go for much more than £25k. People in Lunnon pay five times that for a broom cupboard.

I suspect that £25k price tag is there to generate interest more than anything ... with 5 acres it's bound to go for much more than that (unless it's under the M5 or something).

If i had a job in the area that paid the same as i earn now, i could afford it.

Sadly, as you suspect, i bet it will go for a lot more (probably be bought by a bloody developer who will turn the 5 acres into houses...).

One question: does it have a toilet?
I'm thinking perfect opportunity for composting loos in the back garden!!

I've just checked the aerial photos on multimap. It looks idyllic. Green fields surrounded by woodland and farm fields.

Oh I wish I'd heard about this sooner. It looks fab. The auction is tomorrow so not enough time.

Just seen on the news that it sold for £100,000. Four times the guide price. The people who live next door bought it and want to leave it as it is and not do anything with it.

My lodger and I were having a debate about whether you would ever get planning permission and building regs to live in it. I reckon you could but he said not. Can anyone settle the argument?

Woah!

I'm glad that its not going to be changed!

I reckon you could live in it - technically. it has been lived in before, and so it shouldn't need further permission for habitation.

However, according to the Estate Agents, it was questionable as to whether it was fit for habitation.

'Cave' houses are relatively common in the outback in Australia, esp in places like Cooper Pedy where people build them to get away from the heat.
