I am sure that someone else will have a more immediate remedy but pharmacies sell a numbing gel that is quite strong, until then I suggest an ice pack or summat

Hope it is better soon

Yup EO of clove - I was once told by a pharmacist that they don´t sell it anymore as it is poisonous  . Well I guess it is if you drink it!

If you can´t get it from a chemist then you´ll be able to get it most places that sell EOs (Neal´s Yard, Holland & Barrat etc.) Use a cotton bud and apply sparingly.

Poor you, hope you feel better soon.

Cocaine. It's what dentists used to use in the past. It numbs your gums!

Any idea where you can get it? I asked at the chemist but they threw me out of the shop!

Use enough and it numbs everything!

TG, just ask around at your local high school, they will point you in the right direction

or if you've got a proper traditional chinese acupuncturist on your doorstep - 6 twiddled needles, and ten minutes later, not a whisp of pain!

Ibuprofen or cocodamol (8/500 is the over-the-counter version) are both reasonably effective for acute (short-term) dental pain. If it's really bad, a doctor may prescribe cocodamol 30/500 to see you threw until you see the dentist.

Neither are particularly effective for chronic pain, though. I've had moderate to severe dental pain for 18 months now and just have to grin and bear it. (The last time I went to the dentist, she said there was nothing further she could do given her skills and the facilities in her surgery. Welcome to modern British dental healthcare!)

The dental healthcare is a joke!

I know the NHS are struggling, but it is ridiculous.
I phoned up this morning to try to get an appointment at the practice i am supposedly registered at only to be told that i'm not registered there anymore due to the fact that i don't have ongoing treatment!!

If i want an appointment on the NHS, i have to wait 6 weeks. If i want to pay £30 and go privately, then i can be seen tomorrow. Its stupid.

I phoned another dentist recommended by NHS Direct and she's going to see if she can get me in tomorrow - they're registering at the moment too, so i'll register with her.

During the day, it doesn't hurt too much - i think i've taken enough painkillers to stop it even thinking about hurting! Last ngiht it was agony, i was up at 6 this morning crying because it hurt.

A pair of pliers and a bottle of whisky is starting to look like a good option!

I shall try to get some clove oil and give it a go!

I wish i was still working at the piercing studio - i had access to oral anaesthetics then! i could have numbed it and removed it myself by now!! They have clamps too, and its probably cleaner than the last dentist i went to!

I can't take codeine because i'm allergic to it (it makes my face itch), so i've taken paracetamol and Ibruprofen (the lady from NHS Direct told me it was ok). Hopefully, when i ring up tomorrow, i should be able to get an appointment. I've told them at work that i really don't care about coming into work tomorrow, i'm much more bothered about getting the stupid tooth to stop hurting. Luckily, the team leader agreed with me and told me to ring her tomorrow and she'll just sign me off as sick.

Grrr...
