Natural anti-hystamine????

Post: # 64126Post Annpan »

I thought maybe one of you aromatherapist, reflexology, herbal remedy dudes might help.

Any natural/ free remedies.

I am now on 2 types of anti-hysamine and I still have sneezing fits. My hayfever usually only lasts a few weeks but I'd still rather not fill myself with this crap.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

I'm not a natural therapis, but my mum suffers with hayfever.

Try:

Eating local honey for a few months before summer
Having cut flowers in the house from january onwards.

They both biuld up a resistance to the pollen.

taking a teaspoon of local honey during the season also helps with the symptoms.
Also try a tea of equal parts
Eyebright,Elderflower, Echinachea, Hyssop.
Homeopathy ... Mixed Pollen grains 30 from the health shop.
also Eucalyptus oil... but dont use Eucalyptus oil if using homeopathis remedies ...

I dont have qualifications this is just from life experiece ...

Oh I hate it!

Can´t say I have the cure but I´m definitely better off since I ditched the anti-histamines a couple of years ago.

I usually use a tincture and/or tea concocted of cooling and cleansing herbs: nettle, elderflower and peppermint. And euphrasia (eyebright) because I suffer really badly with itchy eyes.

Inhalations of Roman Chamomile EO help to calm the inflammation in the nasal passages. 2 drops in hot water, towel over head.

I also feel much better when I cut out the dairy (as it produces mucus) - though yoghurt is recommended for some reason. The other baddies are the usual suspects: red meat, caffeine, alcohol and refined sugar. This isn´t directly anti-allergy but lessens the load on your body in general, giving you a better chance.

I also read that you could drink two cups of fenugreek tea a day, though I´ve never tried it.

Increase your vit C and magnesium intake too. Best to do this through food, I started having a couple of spoons of molasses through the day, for it´s iron content too, it seemed to help.

Fortunately the pollen seems done and dusted here. How´s LO? Mine was slightly sneezy at the same time as me - in fact now she pretend sneezes as her little joke!

The neals yard tincture is an extension of the one I use (I got them to mix it up for me when they ran out of theirs) - I mean I copied theirs if that makes it clear. Though for some reason when I tried theirs again this year, it made my liver really tender.....think it must have been the licorice cleansing my liver and I must have been a bit overloaded!

I highly recommend NYR, I trained with them and I can honestly say they are a company which puts its values over the desire to make a buck - a rare thing.

I've just started with my hayfever too and it's a pain in the bum... fed up of it already.

I'm taking Weleda Allium Cepa 6 - red onion extract - too early to say whether it works or not.

Nettle tea is supposed to be good - I've got some clipper nettle and mint tea - it's certainly very refreshing.

I tend to wear sunglasses a lot and that does help with the itchy eyes - it makes it harder for you to rub them without thinking which saves more aggravation.

I've got something called HayMax which is supposed to trap the pollen before it enters your nose - you put some at your nostrils - not sure that it really helps though.

You'd think the rain would help wouldn't you - but I reckon it's all been stored up and swished about in between the showers... this photo that I took on Saturday morning just about sums it up.

Thanks for all the hints guys, I have loads of things to try out now.

Clara - LO is not too bad just an itchy nose, but she is also at the stage that she coughs all the time 'cause its funny  and fake burps are the current fave

I used to not eat dairy (except yogurt) for that very reason - I drank loads of milk and ate loads of cheese when I was pregnant, so I think that kick started the habit again... will stop as of now  (just don't make me give up yeo-valley yoghurt, I will cry) I don't drink, eat very little red meat, 1 0r 2 cups of coffee a day and very little refined sugar - I will try to cut out more

I also used to wear sunglasses all summer and was told by a friend that because I have blue eyes it means the sun scorches them... or something... she was Spanish so I don't know if it was a mistranslation. It worked though - stoped making them so dry and itchy but recently it has been more indoors I have been getting my sneezing fits... who knows.

Cor, I forgot that some simple things can really help. I will reprt back in a few days with results. As I say it usually only lasts a few weeks so lets hope they go by quickly.

If you find that you´re suffering indoors, then maybe think about the way in which pollen is getting there....pets, windows open at dawn or dusk, on your clothes. It is recommended to take a shower before you go to bed, but then who has time for that everyday, no one with a 9 month old baby that´s for sure!

I have never suffered in my 38 ( ) years, but recently I have had what I thought was the beginning of Man Flu - sneezy, itch nose and a dull head. It had never developed past this and tends to come and go. I actually notice it being worse when in Edinburgh at my client's office which overlooks Queen Street gardens.

Oddy, my client (who also lives rurally, although several miles away) has never suffered from hay fever until this year. So....is it hayfever, and, do we both suffer less when at home as we have a better resitance to the local pollen, but suffer in Edinburgh when the wind was blowing the tree pollen in the direction of the office windows?

The pollution from traffic fumes etc could be responsible for aggravating the symptoms?

Yes my hayfever was much worse when I lived in the city because of the pollution
