Everyone is shocked and angry. It's terrible. The government and security peeps have been watching out and waiting, but this kind of terrorism is invisible. Nothing can be done to stop such sick people.

What can you say? It's terrible, horrific, and completely shocking. I suspect Blair will get a lot more support for ID cards now. I hope this means they'll start clamping down on the people who have been agitating for such attacks.

I think we are sadly much to "PC" for that kind of thing Tawny Owl...mores the pity.

My heart goes out to all those families that are waking up today to the realisation that yesterday was NOT a horrible dream.

I'm not always proud to be British but yesterday I was. In the mist of all that horror and chaos everyone seemed to behave with dignity and co-operation for the rescue services......Churchill would of been proud.

Safe and sound here - my wife and I were actually in northern Spain walking the Camino de Santaigo when the attacks occurred. Such a contrast between the beauty of the Galician countryside and the nastiness of the bomb attacks.

Good to hear you are ok - I thought of you, I think you are the only one on the forum who lives right in London. One of my bosses was due to go to London for a meeting that day, but his flight wasn't til midday and he heard before he left, so he very sensibly stayed where he was.

I saw the first pictures of the bomb sites today ('cause I have no telly, only get the Sunday paper and rarely get round to reading that on the Sunday). I just wonder how anybody could survive it. Just can't get my head around any possible reason behind the attacks. Attention seeking? Why not do something really good and get attention for that?

BTW, although nobody I know was directly affected I did hear of one friend from church who had the narrowest of escapes. She was due to be on one of the tube trains that got bombed but arrived at the platform a couple of seconds too late to catch it! I haven't had the chance to speak to her directly yet but I can only imagine what that must feel like, to have stood so close the edge! Don't grumble next time you miss a connection!

Sorry guys I didn't think to check here and say "all is ok". It's been a difficult summer - new job, just feeling exhausted so haven't really done much but work and sleep! No time to "internet" at all! Almost no time to tend the growing stuff either

I work locally so wasn't in the centre of London at the time, but several of my colleagues and friends were caught up in the ensuing havoc, though none, fortunately, was directly involved.

It has been, and continues to be, very...well...touching is an inadequate expression...that people have shown concern and support. I remember after the September 11th attacks seeing people laying flowers at the American Embassy and wondering why they did it, what they thought they were expressing. After the attacks in July I saw pictures from around the world of people laying flowers at British Embassies and I burst into tears. These things do matter. Small gestures of human connection.
