Post: # 71745Post Annpan »

The postman delivered my free tree from Yeo Valley  it is a Hazel, any suggestions as to where to plant it and what I can do with it and how long it will take to grow? it is incy wincy just now (1' tall)

I did send off for 2 trees but I can't remember what the other one was going to be... it'll have to be another surprise

Congratulations... perhaps you'll get some hazel nuts?

My dad used to have a hazel hedge in partial shade (which they like) and we used to get loads of nuts off that. You can copice it or cut it back to a shape.

I would put it somewhere sheltered... perhaps even plant it in a large pot (in good, rich, garden soil) for a year or so to protect it. However, don't forget to water it wherever you plant it to establish it well.

Good luck
