Puppies!!!!

Post: # 72350Post fenwoman »

I forgot to mention. I have puppies. Well not me exactly, but Ellie and Patty both had pups within 24 hours of each other. I was up until 2am last night making sure Patty gave birth ok. Crikey I wish I'd done it like her. No pant, ripping up of paper, scratching etc. She just sat there, gave one push and oops, there popped a pup. No straining etc. And hour later, one little push and oops, there comes another pup.Me on standby with dry towel, coffe, matchsticks to keep eyes open and a copy of 'Moll Flanders' to while away the time.
This morning all doing well, both mothers calm, all pups seemingly healthy and feeding as are the mums. I've been busy cooking rabbit, scrambling eggs, making rice pudding etc for the mothers. There are 4 tri-colours and 3 blenheims. Not even looked at the sex ratio yet though.

Congratulations to you and the mums. How lovely. Is there any chance of some photos please?

In another 2 weeks there will be pictures. I am striclty hands off for at least a week so that the dams have total peace with their babies. I don't even know what sexes I have and won't know for another week when I take a quick peek when the dams are out for a piddle. I would certainly not dream of pointing a camera in the nest and letting off flashes 24 hours after whelping.Stressed and anxious dams don't produce lots of milk.
All of the new owners are keen to get photos too and they have been told that they will have to wait lol. Luckily, they are happy to do so since they know that the mothers and babies are my priority.
The hard works starts in 4 weeks time when I start weaning and they start to pee and poop and the mum stops cleaning up after them. Right now, we are all tired but happy.

Fair point about the photos. Their welfare is the highest priority. Would love to see them when it's appropriate though.

Cheers

OOOOH how sweet, congratulations!

They do make it look easy don´t they! 10 minutes after I went into labour my spaniel appeared at the bedroom door and promptly delivered 7 healthy pups without much fuss under the bed! I was still on top of the bed trying to get 1 out 48 hours later!!!!

I think I may be part dog hehe. When I had my son 34 years ago, it was only 3 hours from the moment my waters were broken to the time he was bron.(lazy so and so still likes to sleep in).

All power to your doggies!!! Glad all are well. Welcome to the world puppies!!!

wish I was a dog  16 hours of labour, 3 hours of actual pushing, a doctor who wanted to pull a very stuck miniflib out by the head to reduce c section statistics, an emergency c section, 2 heart attacks each followed by a defibrilation and resuscitation, 12 hours medical induced coma, 12 hours natural coma, 1 week missing from my memory... but hey.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

Don't take this the wrong way but........I'm glad my bitches had nothing like that. I would be a gibbering wreck by now if they had. Was this your first? I don't think I'd want any more if mine had been like that. My bestest friend in the world had a terrible time with one of hers too. I think was 48 hours in labour and then with a subsequent one, midwife came to examine her at home, said she wasn't in labour and went away. 15 minutes later, she delivered her own baby in the bathroom standing up!!!! After those, she gave hubby an ultimatum. Either the snip or no more nooky ever!!!. He had the snip.

My first and only. I don't remember most of it except a few snippets and flashbacks; but it shoock my hubby up so badly that he's had the snip. A mixture of a small pelvis and a hospital which wanted to keep its statistics down- or so I think. to be honest I dont know why they left me so long as 5 days later i was due to have a conversation about an elective c section... not the "too posh to push" kind, the "baby's too big for my bits" kind lol!
I'm so glad your dogs had an easy time, for them and for you.

Weird.....I had 48 hour labour and 12 hours pushing a breech baby out at home.....If my next comes in 15 minutes into my own hands, I will cry with joy!!!!!

Here are some pictures of my other dogs to be going on with. Taken today.
Firstly, old lady Twinkle (10 years old has 'issues'), baby-daisy(5 months) my lha-chi, and Dibble (10 years)the shih-tzu.

Image

then my 'big boys', Urian the lurcher (8 years) in the chair, Marley the Gordon setter (5 months), and Ursa the Newfoundland cross (4 months)
Image

And Marley in his fave bed, under the aquarium. Won't be too much longer when he won't fit and the little dogs can have it back.

Image

Lastly, Ursa, firstly taken today sleeping by the chair and the 2nd pic is one I took when I got him aged 9 weeks in the same spot.Ain't he grown?

I like all dogs. The smaller ones are more convenient in wet weather. That floor was mopped 4 times today and still looks filthy thanks to big muddy wet feet. The stripey mat in the background is brilliant for trapping a lot of the wet mud. Cost me nowt. Was down at the dump and some old chap pulled out 2 of them and was about to toss them when I begged for them. Each is a good 6 feet long. They were filthy, like they'd been in a shed. A good wash and they came up lovely and now I replace each one daily and wash it. As I say they soak the worst of the mud and wet and also the Daisy piddle. I've never had such a piddling dog.Must be a chihuahua thing.
Little dogs are great for cuddles. I don't quite fancy having one of my 'big boys' on my lap or on my little old sofa for that matter.
Took this one a few minutes ago of the chihuahuas eating their dinner.

No silver spoons, bone china dishes and dainty morsels here I'm afraid!

Somehow you don't expect little dogs like that to still have this killing and ripping instinct... :? I'm glad to see they do!
