Hurray I'm unemployed

Post: # 72998Post Thomzo »

I doubt anybody's missed the fact that I was made redundant at the end of September.

The company I worked for closed down, we shut the shutters down, handed the keys back to the landlord and went to the pub on Friday.

It was a long slog but we managed to find good homes for almost everything out of the office and warehouse. A chance comment to a friend revealed that his brother was setting up a new business so the last of our office furniture and warehouse equipment went off to a new home in a couple of vans on Thursday afternoon.

Anything that couldn't be reused (and there wasn't much of that) went off to the appropriate experts for recycling.

Hardly anything went into the skip and much of what did disappeared overnight. An old motor engine appeared in the skip one morning but had disappeared again by lunchtime

So now my big plan is to spend lots of time in the garden - only it's pouring and has been all day  Still there's always tomorrow. I just hope it clears up before I give up and get another job.

So, the list of jobs for the next few weeks are:

Clean the conservatory inside and out and put some trellis up for next year's cucumbers, tomatoes, melons etc.
Move the raspberries that have taken over the fruit cage.
Clear an area of garden and turn it into a woodland garden.
Turn the "summerhouse" (which used to be my office years ago when I was self-employed) into a proper potting shed so that I can use the carport as a greenhouse.
Take some pics to prove I've done it (and to explain my previous comment).

So if anybody wants to nag me then please feel free. So far my first day of freedom has been spent sat on the sofa with UK TV gardens, catching up with three days' of missed Ssish! I need someone to crack the whip here.

Cheers
Zoe

ooh you will wonder how you have the time to fit a job in ... once you settle into being home. Enjoy the time you have befor the dreaded earn a living mode has to kick back in.

Actually a little off topic but... I have not had so much work the last couple of months and have decided to keep it that way for a while. I actually save money not being employed full time. I have time to do real shopping and real meals all the time now ... saves a fortune.. plus all the other jobs painting, gardening, sorting and recycling. Done a yard sale
 ... and had time for me to do the things I like ... bird waching all that forageing, walking, and I feel a much nicer person for it.

does anyone agree... :flower:

I wish you all the best. I always felt I would find it hard to motivate myself in that situation, but I think that after a week or so to get a rest and a few jobs done that I'd put off.... I'd be raring to go.

Let us know how you get on....

Thanks everyone.

Silver Ether - I quite agree. I've had a few spells where I have been lucky enough to work part time and you really can save a packet. In my job I am expected to dress smartly so, in addition to everything that you said, I also save a fortune on clothes, especially tights, and dry cleaning bills.

Congrats? :?

Use this time wisely, cause if you don't you will kick yourself.

Set the Alarm and get up and dressed at the same time as you would have were you working. Allow yourself 1 hour for lunch and 2 coffee breaks a day.

... think of all the work someone like Stonehead has to do in a day, and how satisfying it is - that has been my recent motivation.

... think of how much easier your life will be when you get on top of those niggling little thngs

You do need the whip cracked and you will be all the better if you get up off you bahookie and get out into the fresh air....

DO IT ZOE...

NOW

unless you are reading this at midnight or something, in which case,

NOW

YOU'VE GOT A LONG DAY AHEAD OF YOU

You deserve a few days off doing nothing but veg (that kind of veg  ) anyway, but now the time has come to get off your butt and get out in the fresh air and do something with the other kind of veg!

Thanks everyone. That is just what I need. Apart from Monday I have been pretty busy. Actually, when I think about it, I did quite a lot on Monday as well. I did the housework, did some washing, went shopping and baked a cake. Then I caught up with three days worth of missed Ssish, went to slimming world, iced the cake and collapsed into bed.

I've been getting up at my usual time (ish). Yesterday I had a job interview (which seemed to go pretty well) followed by some friends round for lunch. I got the lunch ready before the interview.

Once my friends had gone, I started to clear out the conservatory. Then I went dancing in the evening.

Today I finished clearing out the conservatory. I had thought that I would get away with a quick coat of paint on the two walls but when I started to peel off the tatty border that was there, all the paint came off with it

So then I had to scrape off the rest of the paint and stabilise the plaster. Then I put a coat of paint on. Oh and I've taken down the blinds to wash them.

So far, I would say I've been quite busy. Off out to dinner tonight so just sitting down for my 10 minute coffee break with the cat on my lap and a catch up.

Keep cracking the whip guys.

Zoe
