looking smart for next to nothing

Post: # 73158Post mrsflibble »

My family went to my aunt's wedding last week. I'm proud (and smug) to say that our outfits cost next to nothing.
here is a photo of me and my "baby" brothers.
Tom, on the left is 14. he is wearing a suit which cost £3.99 from a charity shop (required some taking up) plus a shirt for £1.99 from another one, and his school shoes.
I am wearing an outfit I have had for years and seem to wear for almost every wedding I go to, and Ollie on the right is wearing a jacket from asda (actually a "george" school blazer lol!), cords from a charity shop, school shirt and one of dad's ties.
I love this picture even though it is slightly overexposed 'cos I have very few of me and my brothers together.

I did offer Ol the use of my old school senior prefect **smug*smug** tie but for some reason (hating school mostly) he declined lol!

just wanted to show how proud I am of their (and my mum's) RRR/doing things on the cheap philosophy; and to show my displeasure that programs like 10 years younger put charity shops in the "crappy tut" light.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very
ve-he-he-he-heryyyyyyy soooooooooooon!!!!

Great photo.

There is clearly nothing wrong with charity shop buys. Look how well dressed they are. That suit looks brand new and the shirt is fab.

It always makes me laugh when I hear about people spending huge amounts of money on an outfit that they will wear a couple of times and then send to a charity shop - no wonder that's where all the best outfits come from!! lol
Last year Chris was walking past a charity shop and saw the most beautiful dress in the window - perfect for the Christmas party we were going to - in fact he also saw 4 more - so he bought them all - for less than £15. At the party I was told lots of times how lovely I looked - mostly by women too. I took great delight in telling them that Chris had chosen and bought the dress for me as a surprise. It was really funny to see the looks on their faces when I added that it was from a charity shop!!! pmsl! SO I told them that quite frankly it doesn't matter where a dress comes from if you like wearing it, you feel good in it and best of all it was chosen with love!
My ambition is to find the most beautiful, expensive looking evening gown in a chaity shop - to dance around the garden in!!
In fact - I visit them regularly in the hope of finding my wedding dress!!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

When my friend got married, her fiance went to a charity shop and found a floor-length mediaeval style purple velvet dress and bought it. He told her that he'd found her dress and she wasn't allowed to see it til the wedding day.

It looked beautiful on her - he couldn't have made a better choice if he'd tried!
