it's ok folks - stand down! - global warming "not proven" according to judge...........giving judgement in a case about whether Al Gore's film could be shown to school children without guidance notes..........
It's all a lefty plot, break out the gas-guzzlers!

Actually, Mr Justice Barton actually found the film was "broadly accurate" in its presentation of climate change, but he identified what he said were nine significant errors in the film.

Needless to say, that finding has either been ignored or buried by much of the media.

And some of those nine errors are down to semantics while others are down to lack of scientific proof - in areas where actual proof can be impossible to attain (at least until long after the event, if ever).

For instance, when talking about the Ocean Conveyor, "potentially shutting down" and "highly unlikely" to shut down are not mutually exclusive, as the judge says.

And while an Inconvenient Truth says low-lying atolls are being inundated, the judge found "no evidence of evacuations". You can have rising sea levels without organised evacuations! (Google "Tuvalu rising sea levels" to read the effects on that small island state and about how New Zealand is taking increasing numbers of Tuvaluans as they're forced from their islands. People are also leaving the lower parts of Vanuatu and the Carteret Islands.)

Reading the judge's decision for myself, I was left thinking there was only one genuine error - the drowning polar bears.

The decision and the way it's being reported are very unfortunate as they will now be spun by denialists and fatalists who want to avoid doing anything or chaning the their lifestyles or the way they do business.

I really do despair...........
Are those in power so irretrievably thick that they won't grasp the enormity of what we face before the rising floodwater floats their wigs off? :dave:
From where I'm sitting, Mr Chamberlain is coming down those aeroplane steps waving a piece of paper again!............

oh what a giveaway!............the sole dissenting voice about Al Gore's award on the news was one Martin Livermore, from the "Scientific Alliance" - so I googled the site up!
It's yet another self-appointed "body", which amongst other things, champions the cause of GM........nuff said!

There's a positive side to all this - it's a gift to mad bloggers like myself! Heck, I'd have had to think of something to write about if it wasn't for this.

had a little Google - the main sponsor of the "New Party" is one Robert Durward - http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?ti ... rt_Durward - who is also connmected with the "Scientific Alliance", who provided the only dissenting voice about Al Gore's Nobel prize in the shape of one Martin Livermore................
And from the Scotsman http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?id=83662003&tid=733
A certain circularity there!

the thought has occurred that follow the precedent set by this case, do I presume that Geography lessons will now have to feature "the alternative view" from the Flat Earth Society? :geek:
