Free apple tree!

Post: # 75784Post hamster »

Copella apple juice (who sell juice in recyclable bottles instead of tetra-paks) are offering a free Jonagold apple tree if you send in 3 lids and receipts. I think it's only through Waitrose they're doing it, but just thought I'd spread the word anyway.

Research tells me an apple tree will be okay in a big pot for a few years until I get a proper garden, but if not, does anyone want my tokens?
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

cant find any information on their website but you know for most types of apple tree you need two to blossom at the same time to pollinate??

thanks for the info tho - a shame theres no waitrose near me cos i'm looking to get a couple of apple trees for my allotment (tho how i'm going to get them there without a car is another question  )

If the apple is on small rootstock then you should be fine in a pot for a few years. Just watch out for vine weevil. My mother has one apple in a pot and another one that's only just been planted. Both bear fruit.

I think, nowadays, most apples are on small roots.

If there are any other apples that flower at a similar time in your neighbours' gardens then you should be OK for a pollinator.
