HELP! We Need Somebody…well a few people, really

Post: # 76933Post Annpan »

I have just posted this on my blog, and I thought I might have a stab in the dark and see if anyone here can help us.

Over the weekend of December 1st and 2nd, we are asking for help to finish off building work in our livingroom.

We need to build the rest of the wooden frame that the builders botched, install insulation inbetween the studs, plasterboard over the top and seal the joints. We also need to lay some kind of flooring and dry line the ceiling.

It sounds like a lot of hard work but it is more like a giant jigsaw, we will need help just with the man hours really, it is all stuff that we are capable of doing and can show others how to do it too.

If you have any specific skills you can offer, so much the better, but if you can hold your hands against a wall (or ceiling) that is all we really need.

Our catering needs are already … well, catered for (thankyou M) and E is being shipped off to her grandparents…

We can put some people up overnight, and we have enough wood now to keep the stove on to keep us all warm. We will even buy in a few bottles of wine to sweeten the deal ;o)

Please PM me if you can help at all.

By the way, we are 1 mile from the nearest junction of the M74, quite accesible for the middle swathe of Britain.

Thankyou
Ann Pan

A little too far for us as I love doing this sort of thing. With pigs and poultry to care for, we have to be back here for morning and evening. A shame, because my birthday is on the 2nd and it would have been a fun way to spend it. Good luck in finding helpers.

Ann, I'll have to find out if I have to work that weekend - I'd love to come. So keep fingers crossed.

Ann, I would have been up there like a shot but I'm already booked up that weekend. Don't be afraid to ask again - especially next summer when I've finished this contract and have some spare time again.

Thanks everyone,

It looks like we may be asking again in summer, to get the garden under control - Zoe ,I'll keep you at your word

We weren't expecting all this work when we moved here and although we have done it all before this is a really tough slog. I am desperate just now and want to have a nice front room by christmas (I want E to spend Christmas at home and that means everyone comes to us  )

Anyway, thanks for your all your thoughts and we will hopefully still be going ahead next weekend, so if there is anyone else who can spare a day or 2, you will be much appreciated.

Just to make sure - is it NEXT weekend, or the weekend of the 1/2 Dec? I'll pm you!

excuses, excuses

I wanted to bump this, to see if anyone had missed it first time around...

Any more helpers will be greatfully recieved, Ina has already very kindly volunteered, and we have a couple of other helpers too, but every other pair of hands will make a big difference.

Thanks again everybody

Just to say that I really enjoyed the weekend - Ann and her OH are lovely people, and with their friends I think we made a good team! At least they now have a proper wall in their living room... Shame we couldn't get the ceiling done as well - we could have done with a few tall, strong (not necessarily dark and handsome  ) folk! I hope that next time I meet the wee one, too - and say hello to Holly for me!

Shucks

We did have a great time and I keep going into the livingroom, just to stare at the wall

JohnM and I did manage to get some of the ceiling done on Sunday night, and we have started doing the decorating things (stripping wallpaper and taking out the rest of the carpet, etc)

I'll post photos for all to see

 Thank-you so much Ina, you were a great help and it was lovely to meet you. Thank-you for the other snippets of advice about the garden/ chickens/ stuff... and thank-you for the ginger bread... yummy
