Re: Howdy from the Ozarks

Sounds like a dream come true, Hunter. And to have running water on the land with so much frontage is amazing! Congratulations.

Who's the little guy "under" the waterfall? Is he looking forward to the transition from Memphis?

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

Pretty cool! This is the first time I've been put in my place by someone further to the left than I am! Well done! I'm used to arguing to the point of name-calling with people who think Reagan was the greatest thing ever for America. I think I'm going to like this place. :bootyshake: PS For t...

Can Someone Explain How Allotments Work?

From reading your posts, I've picked up that allotments are like our community gardens. I'm curious to know how they are set up and operated. They are run by districts? municipalities? How big are they? (total) and how big is a patch? (individual) Do they cost very much? Is anything provided above a...

Re: allotment community

We don`t very often meet our allotment neighbours - we`re there in the daytime and they seem to garden evenings and weekends - but when some lowlife trashed our shed and nicked our stuff we found replacement tools, even a petrol mower for the orchard area, quietly put over the fence for us. Had to ...

Re: Thefts from allotments!

My 2nd or 3rd year at my former community garden, somebody stole ALL of my carrots - probably about 15-20 lb worth. What made it even more tragic was that I had been to the patch that Wednesday after work & decided I was going to harvest most of the carrots that Saturday. Up until then I just th...

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

*WARNING* Looooooooooong post Rod, First off, how old are you? That info. will help give me a frame of reference. As for your claims that Obama's, Kerry's, and Gore's voting records (can't say "policies" b/c none of them have held the office of president) are indistinguishable from Republi...

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

Ouch! I take exception to your remark, b/c it's just not true. From where I come from, we're the good guys. If we had a strong 3-party system, I'd convert to the Greenies in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, every green vote is one less for Obama, or Kerry, or Gore. Hi Phoebe Hi Everybody! Let me start by...

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

kiwi, I'm so impressed! Look at your spuds! Your allotment is not in London proper, is it? It looks so big! The two photos I saw made it look like you are well out in the countryside. very cool. And I LOVE your compost bin. Where did you get such a brilliant idea? My patch is too small to accommodat...

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

Thanks for the welcome, kiwi. Glad to know I'm not the only urban gardener here. I used to belong to a community garden run by a small city just north of where I live. It was $60 USD for the season plus 3 hours total of community service for a nice-sized patch. There were no Jesus statues there, eit...

Re: Hello from Chicago USA

It's a community garden hosted by a convent. There's a statue of Jesus blessing all who enter. :-) It's really quite lovely. The nuns LOVE their flowers, for sure. welcome in Phoebe :flower: a real garden in a city environment? you must be very determined  hey playing the dirt is what makes ...

Hello from Chicago USA

Hi Everybody! Let me start by saying, "It wasn't my fault! I'm a lifelong Democrat." This is such a comfortable site. I immediately felt right at home. I found you from a gardening group on Facebook. My name is Phoebe and I am an apartment-dwelling urban gardener with a little patch...
