set up a rainwater collection system off my shed roof?
Hello - I've got one of those 250 litre water tanks and a shed - would like to set up a simple guttering system to catch the rain off the roof and direct it into the tank, but have no experience of this and could do with some help. All I can find on the internet is systems with pipes coming off the ...

Re: Our Community Garden
Hey you two, do you go to the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens events? If so I've probably met you! I'm waiting to hear about a CCF application to set up a community garden/free bicycle-powered veg box scheme for OAPs in Stirling! I'm gonna be at the next event in Edinburgh on the 30th...

Permaculture introduction courses in Scotland
Hi all, I work for a social enterprise called Albion Allotments - we set up community gardens and generally provide people with space to grow things. We also just started running permaculture introduction courses. They're very affordable, at £10 per person (£5 students and unemployed) Courses run ac...

Community garden - Advice greatly appreciated!
Hello all, I'm applying for Climate Challenge funding to set up a community veg garden in Stirling. I've got some land, it's 47m by 23m, it's overgrown grasses, docks and stuff right now. It used to be used for keeping geese and its heavy clay. Thing is, I cant get any funding till January but I'd l...

Re: She wants to pour Jeyes fluid on the food waste!!!
Thanks guys. Luckily I used to work for Biobags so I still have some kitchen caddies and compostable bags I could give her. I haven't ran this idea past her yet. My friend says that knowing cooks she will probably just agree to shut me up then continue to use the bloody stuff anyway... :? Guess I'm ...

She wants to pour Jeyes fluid on the food waste!!!
My job is growing veggies to supply a local cafe (yeah, I know, awesome isnt it?!!). Today the cook said that she'll start having to pour Jeyes fluid on the food waste bin to kill all the flies cos they're getting into the cafe and its unhygenic. The food waste gets transported to my compost bin and...

Re: Rose and rose hip recipes
I make rose hip conserve by putting mashed rosehips in a half jar of honey. Today I was making flapjacks and I added some of it to the flapjack mix ...very nice :)

Re: Growing quinoa in the UK???
No I'm not involved with the Fife diet people.
When you harvest the grain, is that it for the plant or does more grain grow back? I'm just thinking you'd have to grow loads and loads of them to have a decent amount of grain..

Re: Growing quinoa in the UK???
Hey quinoa growing people, how did it work out for you? How much grain can you get per plant? How much hassle is it to separate them? What about amaranth? I'm starting up a community veg growing project and am gonna plant loads of both in the spring...trying to help normalise the idea of growing gra...

A friend of mine goes round the bins at 6am. No police around then, or anybody else. So very little chance of getting caught!
