Ohhh, I was interested to see this as I was in Brussles not two weeks ago and tried it - with the odd beer to two :drunken: ! The recipe looks like a richer version of what we ate which was largely coursely mashed (forked) potatoes with seasoning and veggies, I think I noted onions and cabbage in mi...

Very interesting Jack! I'm still in a bit of shock from the pictures  but reminded myself that when I'm dicing up the stewing steak or preparing the shoulder of lamb for the pot it is no different and photos of that wouldn't surprise anybody. Funny how squeamish we are yet we yum up parts of ...

I'll take the tip to wait then... can't run to four and a half grand right now - how can they justify nearly £7000 (inc grant) for such a system

I like the look of your wind turbines, I may read a bit more of your site then... *skips off*

We just got a quote for solar panels - £4,600 INCLUDING the £2000+ grant!!!

I'd just use that amount of leccy in 30 or so years (if I last that long  ) - sooo, my motivation for buying this is... what?

bit of a mix up making mint jelly - used wrong vinegar :(

Oopsie... I made a batch of mint jelly and poured cider vinegar in instead of white wine vinegar. Does anybody think it will significantly alter the end product (just draining through and old pillow case as we speak). I posted the question on another forum too in hope of a swift response as I will a...

Glad I saw this, I've got a glut of fruit to preserve!

Can I ask a question? When in the 'bath' should the lids be sealed or open for Kilners and for screwtop jars?

Thanks :flower:

It's decided! I'm going to make some plum ketchup (thanks to Delia Smith online); some of Naomi's Mint Jelly - from ACL forum - as that uses up apples, and some apple relish. I'm also thinking of making some pears in syrup or pickled pears but need to find a recipe first. I will put them in pretty b...

It's lovely here too Andy

ACL and Selfsufficientish are the ONLY forums I subscribe to (oh, and my horsey one but that doesn't count here :geek: ).

I pick forums that have the same 'feel' as here, nice and friendly and supportive. That's the whole point of them, non?

OMG I think I remember reading that post

When I joined I read EVERY post on that forum, felt well prepared to look after chooks after that... then the chicken ate all the corn and I asked 'that' question

Woo hoooo! Carolyn (Ed) has explained what happened, Stonehead was right, there was a forum issue that got out of hand and turned nasty. :( Can't post on the forum or PM yet but will watch out for that. I got so much support on that site when I got my ducks and chooks. Nobody laughed when I thought ...

Yep, I use it for bread (onion and Rosemary is yummy  )

I've also used the dough setting. I was worried about jam/marmalade because of the aforementioned lack of control of temp. Also, the receptical is very small for a really worthwhile preserve.

IMO anyhoo :flower:

The 2006 fruit glutton - inspiration needed :)

The GLUTON: Grapes, grapes, EVERYWHERE!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/lynda788/Summer%2006%20-%20Glutton/fruittreestimsmoth006.jpg Every year our old grape vine produces kilos of rose coloured grapes... they taste slightly bitter and 'earthy' when ripe, so def not a desert grape. This yea...

Good stuff :) Am mixing horse poo with topsoil 50:50 whilst the potatoes quietly chit away on the windowsill :) Freecycle is a good idea, I don't know why it didn't cross my mind! I've already got a huge aquarium from Freecycle for my daughter's escapologist (SP?) hamster and a water butt with a lea...
