Re: Kohlrabi

We ate the first one yesterday, pretty much as beangardenin described, both ball and leaves in a stirfry. Very nice. It's so easy to grow that I will certainly keep it on the list. We are growing the okra for the husband, I'm not keen... does anyone else grow stuff they don't like? :pukeright:

Re: Kohlrabi

Thank you for your replies. You make think it strange to be growing something I am totally unfamiliar with but flushed by the success of last year's crops, I bought the husband a load of seeds as a little pressie... something to experiment with.. so we now have some pak choi, okra etc coming along n...

Re: Let's talk Lady Birds.

I agree that there are more ladybirds although I have just banished another crop of dandelions so they may disappear again. I have noticed quite a few on my fruit bushes, especially the currants... do they particularly like them?

Re: A Walkabout of my Property (Garden)

That looks great. It is very tidy compared to my patch which I pretend has a cottage garden quality but actually needs weeding!

Re: Guess what I found in my garden?

I'm very jealous... I love finding things in the garden. Lots of clay pipes here but nothing much else.

Hello everyone... I've had a search and can't find the answers so can you all help me out here... I've grown kohlrabi for the first time and it's done really well. What can I do with it now? Any recipe suggestions would be gratefully received. Also... what about the leaves? They look lovely and heal...

Re: drying herbs

Coincidentally I have been thinking about the same thing. Yesterday I cut all my dill which looked like it was about to bolt. I have tried three different methods to keep it for future use. 1. Hang a bunch up to dry. 2. Freeze some in cubes. 3. Add some to some small jars of oil for barbecued fish. ...

Re: (Swiss) Chard

I love chard and use it in salad, in stirfry and as an ordinary side vegetable. Hardly needs any cooking, just wilt it slightly.

Re: Hello From Oldham, Lancashire

Thank you for the welcome... I know Ashton quite well, I buy all my spices from ASM, an excellent Asian store. There's a very good independent nursery called Mockridges which sells excellent quality plants and trees at sensible prices. I bought a greengage tree recently and am hoping for years of yu...

Hello From Oldham, Lancashire

Hello Everyone. I'm new to the forum so would like to tell you a little bit about myself and my life. I am a nurse, currently working full time but planning for a time when I can say goodbye to all that and live a simpler life. I am fortunate enough to have a large garden plot which my family and I ...
