Hmmm, they are quite well 'out'. I might try somewhere not as warm as the airing cupboard - in our house that won't be difficult!
Thanks Zoe

Re: Oh no! R.A.T.S!
Snap traps are the best, as everyone has said here. Our latest visitation was earlier this year. We put out two 'humane' traps, but only caught rats in the snappers. They were living under a wood/stone pile under a big fir tree; we moved the stuff and dug the nest up and out came five rats!!! My son...

Re: quail aggression help please!!
I have chooks not quail, but I expect they are similar. Can you seperate them, but still let them see each other? Put the little white one in a smaller cage near the big one? That way they may start to tolerate her and might accept her back eventually. Do you have some purple spray? Chickens will pe...

Re: fencing in chickens
Don't forget to think about foxes......... Electric fences usually keep them out. If you are not going down that route, bury your fence 8" or so in the ground and make it at least 6-8 foot high. But don't rely on that keeping the blighters out - if they are desperate they will get over it. Or t...

Re: Do you get excited over free composting material?
Basically I get excited by anything going free, for compost or otherwise. Bits of old rope on the road, clumps of straw or muck that have fallen off a tractor, collecting more leaves from the woods in the autumn to add to the leaf pile along with the odd bit of wood, asking the paint shop if any of ...

Re: shreaded paper for the chooks???
You can use shredded paper in the compost bin. It is good because, not being totally flat it helps keep air in. it can be added before or after the chickens have used it!
Not sure about shredding newspaper Indy. It may be too soft and floppy!

Thanks for the welcomes. Mother, we used to live in a flat but we outgrew it. A couple of houses later, we are here to stay I think! Do you have window boxes or acces to any green space at all?
