Fall Prevention for Older People - The 'ish Guide.

Hi Folks, This isn't exactly about lotions and potions, it's a post about Fall Prevention for Older People. I've done a lot of work on this very serious problem and I thought I'd share it with you in case you'd find it useful. I devised a programme known as FRASE that is used in hospitals and nursin...

Re: What have you found lately?

That reminds me of something Keaniebean! When our youngest little fella was about four he had a most embarrassing but lucrative habit. Whenever we'd go to the supermarket he'd suddenly 'disappear' periodically, only to reappear at the end of an aisle. Mrs Clig and I were nearly convinced the young f...

Mmmmm....the deception of wimmin knows no bounds it would appear! The thing is Mrs F, I bet he knew all along you had some trick up your sleeve...us fellas are smarter than you'd give us credit for! Anyway, if he changes his mind you can always send the cake to me...it looks very toothsome! :...

Re: Will Peppers Grow in a Conservatory?

Thanks for that folks. I'll do some shifting of plants tonight. I'll give them a tickle and a spell outside when they are in flower and then hope for the best. Cheers.

Will Peppers Grow in a Conservatory?

Well, I know they will grow but what I mean is, will they fruit? I'm just wondering if they need to be pollinated by insects. Obviously we don't encourage flying beasts into the conservatory! If I put a couple in pots in the conservatory, will they fruit without insects? or do I need to pollinate th...

Re: Moved from England to Scotland

Well Andy, I'm from London, where I met my wife but Mrs. Clig is from Ireland...so same as you I was dragged kicking and screaming across the Irish Sea to pastures new. When I say 'pastures' that's exactly what I mean. We now live in a very rural part of the Irish Midlands, surrounded by pastures in...

Re: Spuds Growing in my Compost Bin

Glad that I haven't got 'magic' spuds. I was having visions of being like 'Jack and the Beanstalk' for a while - except in my case, spud-stalk. Rather than chuck the peelings in the bin, I'm going to try Crowsashes rather excellent suggestion of roasting them. Sour cream and chive dip seems like a g...

Re: Spuds Growing in my Compost Bin

I see, SE, perhaps I ought to stop putting them in then as we live in Ireland, so you can imagine the amount of spuds we use! Funny though, because every book or magazine I've read suggests putting them in. :dontknow: I may try Plan B and plant the peelings in the ground next year then and see what ...

Spuds Growing in my Compost Bin

Hi folks, I have noticed that whenever I go to inspect the compost bin, or to add anything to it, that I have very 'leggy' spud plants growing in the compost. They are sprouting from the peelings that I add to it. I do add the correct stuff in the correct ratios. I add pee and nettle brew to activat...

Re: Grumpy old man

Re-sealable packs (cheese, ham etc) that have no notion in the world of allowing themselves to be re-sealed. Anything that says 'easy open' probably isn't. Toilet paper (or should I say 'Bathroom Tissue') that have the two ply sheets out of sync (if you know what I mean). Luckily I remember seeing a...

Re: Talk about feeling like a fool!

Well, I'm mightily relieved to hear that I'm not the only poor sot that's been chatting to Trish.

Doesn't look good when a fella 'in the prime of his life' is seen chatting to single young Trish all alone in a chatroom though does it? Especially when Mrs Clig walks in and sees the spectacle :help:

Talk about feeling like a fool!

I feel so stupid right now...I'm a 24 carat, gold-plated plonker in fact! I have the 'ish site saved as one of my favourites and it links directly to the forums. This means I very rarely see the home page. Anyhoo, on Saturday I had a look and saw there was a chat room, so I went to look at it. I cho...

Re: Bulk buying toilet cleaner....

Well Citizen, what I do at home is to make up a big bucket of solution as a general purpose cleaner and store it in old fizzy drink bottles. I have a big preserving pan that I make it up in but a saucepan would do for a smaller quantity. My secret (but not so secret any more) is: Take 1 bucket of wa...
