Mustard (green manure) gig it in?

Hi I have grown mustard as a green manure over about half of my plot and cut it back before it flowered. Now, I thought I read somewhere that instead of digging it in, it can be left on the top to rot and get taken down naturally as you can with a layer of manure or compost. Or am I just trying to g...

Hi islanz

See you are in Nelson. I was in there in 1963 in my past life as an MN seaman. All I remember was rather ancient cars, and having to sail out of port every time the wind changed and the water level dropped. Bit backwoods then - no doubt BIG changes in the 40+ intervening years.

Anyoen ever won a competition on their allotment? We are thinking of entering for best newcommer on ours this year. Should be a bit of fun. http://www.cogus.co.uk/misc/Prize1.jpg It was meant to be a courgette, but we went off on holiday  and a 3rd for my Barlotto French Beans (My first year a...

Courgettes and AI

My femaile courgette flowers are showing beautifully and ready to "go", but the males are a but slow to show (I know, I know!! ) Problem is I was going to do a bit of AI when the males were ready, but I'm going away for a few weeks. Will they pollinate naturally - insects etc? Peati...

Barlotta beans problem

Hi My Barlotta beans (climbing) have been OK till now, but after a couple of days of rain and some strong winds they are looking very poorly :( They are around 20 cm and just starting to try and climb, but now most of the growing tip, leaves and leaf stems are shrivelled. http://www.cogus.co.uk/Grap...

Tomatos - Little white flies

I moved my tomato plants that I have reared from seed into larger (ex-florist) pots. Went back next evening and lots of small white flies take off when the plants are disturbed. :( There was no sign of these flies when I potted them on, and they have been reared in the same place (greenhouse). What ...

What kind of situation is it growing in. Also, is it widespread in your area or just confined to a small patch? [/i][/color] Thanks Wulf It's concentrated mostly around one area of my plot, although see some popping up elsewhere as well. Found quite a few of the roots when I originally dug over the...
