NuMex Twilight Chili

Post: # 101587Post JR »

Hi I have been looking for a different variety of chili to grow. This year I have a few different ones I have grown from seed. Some for cooking and some for pickling.

I have been trying to find someone who sells the NuMex Twilight variety as a plant but with no luck.

Does anyone know where I could get plants as I feel it would be too late to try from seed?

Hi,I am growing Twilight this year. I doubt it is too late to grow from seed as mine are not long up. I got my seeds from
http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/ they are local to us and friendly people, if you are desperate for a plant it might be worth ringing and begging
How hard can it be, how long can it take. What could POSSIBLY go wrong

I'm trying! *stamps foot impatiently*

But most of my other stuff has been popping up about 4/5 days after i plant it at the moment (must be the sun) so I'm eager for these to come up too. I've even managed to get some melons going pretty quickly but no luck with the chillies yet. I think one of my chillies has started coming up but its really really weeny so I'm not sure if its a stray weed or not! According to the packet it should take a couple of weeks so my first batch should come up any day now really!

Hi I have an super fresno going spare if you have no luck, They tend not to do much year 1 but if kept inside over winter following years go mental.

Do you have a twilight on the go?

I did call south deveon chiliies but they had no Twilights for sale  . Would be grat to have a plant on my own, with chillies you usually can use some of the seeds for future crops. I did grow some scotch bonnets from seeds from a fresh one from a supermarket and they grew fine. Not having the space inside to overwinter them all I have to grow most each year. The super fresno I have is 5 years old still going strong. The chilis seem to get hotter each year but it might be me.

We are trying to grow the Lemon Drop ones from this page http://www.realseeds.co.uk/hotpeppers.html

Haven't checked this morning to see how the tiny seedling is doing yet though. But the spare super fresno would be appreciated if ours don't do so well.

Grown lemon drop last few years - lemony!
Simpsons has a good range of chilli things. YES, they do it. www.simpsonsseeds.co.uk - oh, guess they are out of stock, it was in the 2008 paper catalogue. keep an eye out for next season.

I planted some Twilights (amongst other varieties) ages ago, and they're only just surfacing now. I am finding most of the chilli plants to be lazy, so patience is required (and it's not something I have much of either).

Yea! I have 2 sucessful different varieties so far, the other 2, I have a single germination between them and its tiny. I love my chilies so I may go for a heated propagator next year. I want to start to grow some more exotic ones.

I have about 6 Fresnos (all babies from a plant I have had for about 4-5 years). I did have more but gave some away.

Also have about a dozen Jalapino plants which are about 5-6 inces out of the pots growing 2rd and 3rd leaves after seed leaves.

I dry the fresnos at the end of the year for the winter and the others I use fresh in salads and then pickle. Yum!

The fresnos are Hot! Hot! :angry4: and seem to to get hotter by the year.

My chillies are from a packet called Shake which is a mixture of varieties, some hot and some mild, so it will be interesting to see what they turn out as.

I've ended up with about 12 plants  which wasn't really the plan  but I reckon I can pickle some and have my own mock Jalapeno peppers without having to buy them in bulk in the UK - cos they don't sell them here (odd as they sell all the other mexican stuff from the same range..... :? ).
