Hi

Post: # 10336Post Libby »

Hello all,

I,m a newbie and a wannabe self-sufficient girl.

I noticed Karen D had the same log on problems as myself. My problem was that I always check mail via outlook express.
The Email went into the bulk in my yahoo, which I don,t normally check!
Just thought I,d say that in case anyone else trying to log on is as dim as me

I've had similar problems in the past with bulk yahoo mail.. even when it's been set to recognise a particular address as a 'safe' address it sometimes ends up in the bulk mail folder - which, like you Libby, I don't check often enough.

Mind you, I'm thinking of turning off the mail thingy at the moment as I'm getting LOTS of them - it's easier now for me to just choose the new posts since my last visit on the forum homepage.

Nice to meeet you Libby!!

Hi Libby,
Nice that you were so determined to join us that you kept trying...

Are you a gardener, or in which way are you trying to be self sufficient?

Ina

Thanks everyone for the welcome 8)

So far Ina, I,m only doing things in a small way.
I grow some gooseberries, blackcurrents, rhubarb, strawberries and raspberries in my tiny garden, and I use them to keep me in jam, pies and sauces.
I just about have room to put a greenhouse, and am looking for a second hand one now so that I can grow tomatoes, peppers and chili,s( which it seems I should have started by now) :(
I get tomato supplies from my sister, who has a bit more space than I do, and pay her back with chutney,s, but I want to get my own toms going. Goes down well does my tomato chutney
I,m learning beekeeping as we speak, and also make cheese(to a fashion, but I,m getting better lol).
This is all in preperation for the smallholding I aspire to living in one day!
If I can,t afford one here, I,ll move abroad, but I don,t want to go into it unprepared.
With enough land, I will keep chickens and goats for sure, and then think about other livestock.
I,m applying for an allotment as soon as the greenhouse is set up and then can hopefully be a lot more self sufficient. Hopefully I can keep a hive on it too as my garden is way too small. I,ll have to check that out when I apply.
Well that,s my story so far, now all I need is some money to take it further

Yes, that last one is always a bit limiting... Before you can get self sufficient, you've got to pay for the basics!
I'd love to have bees, too - but there's so many things I'd like to do... Sounds like you have quite a lot going already. Great. Looking forward to exchanging tips!
