spud sprouting in tyres

Post: # 113164Post andiewill »

i have some spuds in a tyre and they were just comming through, i went away for ten days and at that point they were not ready for the second tyre, when i came back home they are now approx 19 inches above the rim of the tyre.

is it to late to put a second tyre on ? or can i cut back the growth and put on the second tyre and remainder of my spuds?

or start another fresh single tyre on its own with the remainder of the spuds.

hello again!
I would think that from what you say, you should be able to chuck the 2nd tyre on top & then fill that with soil..."earthing up" style.
its either one or the other,or neither of the two.

Yes, earth up... don't cut any foliage back.

I would think you would be able to do 2 tires just now actually... even more yummy potatoes

Yep earth up. Incidentally I have heard of people earthing up potatoes in tyres using straw or shredded paper. I am sure if you asked on freecycle you could get shredded paper for nowt. Trick is to make sure that the spuds are covered.
