I don't believe in any literal god(s). I don't want to say why, because that would go against what I believe, if that makes sense :? I would feel like it was an attempt to persuade others to believe the same as me, and I don't want to do that.

I do believe in:
- People's right to believe whatever their heart and mind tell them is the truth
- People's right to not be criticized for not sharing the same belief or disbelief
- The right to independent thought
- The right to seek out the truth in a person's own way, as and when (/if) they are ready to, and provided their search does not disrespect anyone/anything else.

I have no respect for:
- Religious organizations (I respect most normal people who belong to religious organizations, but not the founders, leaders, profit-makers, or the organization itself).
- People who try to persuade others to believe the same as themselves, especially those who indoctrinate their children
- Scaremongers
- People who use violence or some other form of disrespect towards other humans, animals or the earth in the name of their religion/god (or use their religion/god as an excuse).
- People who follow a religion because they were told/taught to without ever questioning the religion and forming their own opinions (unless they are young or have no choice for some other reason).

thanks for the reply rosie. probably only a few will reply to this post. my beliefs run in much the same ways as you. in the way that i dont believe in brainwash, religious schools. and forced religion. for me religion should be found. when mature enough to seek,or want to seek. the ten commandments are the real religion. taught by real people with real early intelligence. if your interested. my most thought of religion is US. by that i mean the earth as a super organism. which we all depend on just now. but in my mind human beings will reach for the stars. and we will get there. and survive. we may meet people on other planets. probably very similar to ourselves. depending on how old. that there civilisation is. we are not alone. there are too many planets. that unfortunately with present technology we cannot reach. but mankind has the potential to do anything.(nothing is impossible) early 1900,s first flight. by 1968 we have landed on the moon. just imagine what we will have achievied by 2068. i wonder. with some luck il see a man on mars. on the other hand. is it so hard to believe there is a ultimate creator. we believe what we are told. and for me that means by our best brains on this planet, i wonder where did we come from. ty rosie

I don't believe in 'A' one, single God, I am a Pagan (and an ecclectic one at that) and that's about all I'm going to say on the subject.

Each to their own and all that... I believe it should be a private subject and I disagree most wholeheartedly with it being taught in schools or even having any part of an education system and I believe it should not become bedfellows with politics either...

... but as I said... each to their own.

I could have sworn I wrote an answer to this post.

I'm of the opinion that there are too many coincidences in my life NOT to believe in *something*

believer in *something* but not sure what.
believer in basic human nature, good and bad. believer in humanist principles such as helping eachother, but also believer in do what you want so long as you're not hurting anyone else.

not a christian. not a pagan.

There must be something. Nature seems to be too complicated and perfect to have just evolved - which I find bizarre, as I've always thought of myself as a bit of a Darwinian. It's not so much lifeforms adapting to their environment (which makes sense on it's own), more the whole balancing and cycling of chemicals in the ecosystem.

I really don't buy into the concept of a big fella sitting in the clouds, or a trident-wielding nutter downstairs.

Exactly... it's what works for the individual.

I actually enjoy finding out about other peoples beliefs and religions and had some very interesting discussions with two Jehovas Witness' that came knocking on my door once and it's amazing how much common ground alot of religions have. They came back several times to drop off one of their magazines that had articles they thought I might be interested in.

At the end of the day we are all just human beings and it doesn't matter what colour we are or what flavour religion we are we should all treat each other with respect, period!

I believe, I have a problem with organised religion, but that doesn't stop me believing.
I think the way RE or RS is taught in schools is OK, it could be better but it is more about learning about different religions and cultures (which children should learn about) rather than preaching about G_d,
