Yes, I was aware of that. We planted any apple seeds that would grow in this area. Didn't concern myself with keeping the seeds identified knowing it could produce a different variety. I guess it will be wait and see for about 4 years to find out what i have. That's okay, I like suprises. I've been saving peach and cherry pits as well. Those are next.

Johnny Appleseed! Do peaches and cherries* grow true? I have no idea about them.

* For the linguists among us, an ote about cherry and cherries. Forget this if you can!

I believe peaches are one of the few fruit that do grow true and are not needed to be grafted onto other rootstocks. We have peach trees all over the place here and I'm forever weeding them out! You just prune them to the size that you want and they can be fruiting in 2-3 years. Need lots of water though or you only get tiny peaches like I did this year, with leathery skins.

Sounds like a dream come true, Hunter. And to have running water on the land with so much frontage is amazing! Congratulations.

Who's the little guy "under" the waterfall? Is he looking forward to the transition from Memphis?

The little guy is my son. We are getting ready to head out there for the weekend. I hope the trees will be turning color. I'll bring back a lot more pics. Got a few sweetgum trees i want to cut down and the walnuts should be dropping too. I have to post some No Hunting signs too, deer season is about to begin. Be back in a couple of days or so.

Enjoy yourselves and I hope you get a better walnut harvest than I did - the pesky squirrel(s) stole most of mine!

I have more walnuts than I could harvest. I believe i could have filled the back of my truck a couple times. I think there were even more hickory nuts. Didn't have time to gather many, but I will be going back in a week or two. The odd thing is I have yet to see a squirrel on any visit. I have seen a lot of hawks and wonder if they could be the reason why. Every time I go there i find something new. This time I found two persimmon trees and a Texas Brown Tarantula! Got poison ivy again too, sigh.

Persimmons are good eats. You're lucky to have them. I enjoyed a very ripe, sun-warmed persimmon from off my neighbour's tree yesterday. It was as sweet as candy, but more refreshing.
