trailer for a bike

I have enjoyed getting back in the saddle after not being on a bike since my teenage years. I like the child seat for transporting ollie but there is little protection from the weather, and with the recent rain we havent been out much.This will only get worse as the winter approaches so I want to get a trailer for the bike. Does anyone have any experience of these, and what are the better brands (I want to be as safe as possible).

I'd caution against using a kiddi trailer certainly on the road. It's the first thing that will and does get hit in an accident. By all means use one on a cycle track / off road set up but be careful. Do a simple search online and it will bring up a host of these. Try to go for one that has a ball and swivel unit between the fixed part on your bike and the child carrier as it makes turning easier and one with fat tyres as it helps cushion the ride for Ollie.

As most have only a plyboard seat it might be worth making a cushion for the bairn to sit on.

Sorry if I scared you. I don't want to do that but giving advice on boards can sometimes leave you open to things. These should be fine. I took my son all over in one that was designed for carrying shopping and holiday gear then he graduated to a trailer bike and then his own bike.

Now he's at uni he's graduated to a bed.....lol.

Hi Folks
I have just seen an ad for something that may solve your problems
You can now purchase a rickshaw type bike with an eletric motor already within it It can carry two adults at the back and comes with seaatbelts I am sure that it could be adapted to take two kids As i have only signed up today give me some time and i will get you a link to the site I do have plans for a bicycle trailer but agree that it would perhaps be the safest way to convey a small child

Hi ya

I was given a Halfords Trail Buggy by a very kind neighbour, this works fine for us. I can fit both my daughters in a very large four year old, and a tiny 16 month old. Plus change bag, coats etc. They are totally protected against the weather, and are always happy and comfy.
I am sure that you have thought of this already, but if you happen to come off your bike (I hope you don't) then the trailer stays up right (this has happen to me). With a seat the child will get hurt too!!

Hi,i had a trailer for my 3rd child and got on very well with it but,i stick mainly to the paths and am not that happy if i have to go on a road with it.
She is now to big and i have baby no.4 too,so i've upgraded to a pedicab/rickshaw with electric assist.It is a fantastic bit of kit which is useful for me as it gives the children weather protection,is safer on the roads and as i don't use a car it has given us the ability to go further afield.
Only problems with a pedicab i feel,is that the assist does just that...it 'assists',cycling the hill to my house is a major task!Plus,you are limited to roads only.

All in all a good buy i feel though(as long as you don't live up a mountain )
