Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
Would I have to join Face Book in order to look at the Ish bit? I have to confess that FB scares me a bit!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
I don't use FB much but you can set your own security-type levels. I'm not sure whether you need to join to look at the Ish bit but I imagine you do.
I've got an account but after problems at Christmas time I've not got it so securely set that even I can't find myself! That's not really true as "friends" can find me once I've made that link with their account but anyone trawling the site don't even realise I have an account, let alone look at any aspect of it.
If you set yourself an account up and go through it carefully setting all the security stuff in the way you like before you head off and start looking for anyone you know (easy way to do that is to let Facebook look at your email address book and look for people you email who also have a FB account. You can then decide whether to contact them) you shouldn't have any problems.

Growing old is much better then the alternative!

Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
Well I think ish is the nicest forum I've come across. I contribute to only one other now (and there is at least one other isher there qui habit en Bretagne - salut toi!) because the others got me down, with the endless, repetitive arguements and high density of keyboard heros.
I know that there is the odd spat on here, but frankly they are storms in teacups compared to other sites.
So in that respect I think ish is unique and I am very happy to be a part of this community.
However, I'm not one for facebook.

Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
Facebook won't recognise my email address and only recognised addresses like Hotmail and Yahoo which is useless so I can't find anyone like that. Someone I know from another forum found me though cos he's got an AOL account. I'm not registered as my name because I couldn't look at the stupid site without registering (I hate that) so I have a forum type of name (not MMM) as I didn't know any better. In any event I would never in a million years register on anything as my real name.Graye wrote:I don't use FB much but you can set your own security-type levels. I have no idea how you find anything because I don't know what I am supposed to be looking for - it is OK if you are told about the Ish section cos you can type it into the search - but there's nothing to browse

Excellent! I'd get lonely being unique all by myself.red wrote:ok - I'm unique and so are the others
Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
I've been an active member of quite a few forums. Some take longer than others to be "accepted".
One I never felt accepted - if you didn't have the moderators views you were burnt down in flames. I was slow to realise this but on looking back they were quite ruthless with a number of people. Then I also discoved that the hard core all knew each other through the training that they did.
I think the most difficult thing, like emails, is the interpretation of what has been written......it can be all too easy to take things the wrong way!!!
I'm still a newbie here.

Re: The Uniqueness of Ish?
Dear Ishers,
I have 'lurked' in the background on many forums about this sort of thing and other topics as well ie parenting. I have thought about posting previously but yours is the first I have actually done so on (always been worried I would end up using incorrect technology or spelling or some other 'no-no' if you know what I mean). I too am torn about Facebook. My experience is that it is a great way to keep in touch with your good mates but there are other times when stuff comes up about other people accepted as 'friends' that I really don't want to see or be reading about. You seem like a happy helpful bunch and I am looking forward to what 2009 brings in your forums. Happy days.

You can set your profile to limited. You can do this for certain people. You can also ignore and block people. If they see a limited profile, all they see is your photo and name and location (i think...).
Good to see that you've been encouraged to jump in! We're generally lovely people here.
