Books wanted

Post: # 14515Post ChukkieLou »

I know this will be a long shot but has anyone got any books, videos or DVD's on any s/s related subjects that they would like to donate to our group? They will be used for our new lending library for people attending our meetings.

I will pay postage

for the price of postage surely you could have a look in your local charity shops?

I don't know about over there, mate but over here good books are few and far between. I spend a lot of time in these places and you do get good stuff, but not often!

some places have loads... others have tatty mills and boon stories and that's about it......

You might try www.readitswapit.co.uk or www.greenmetropolis.com or even ebay. Carboot sales are a good place to pick up books for not very much money.

http://www.greendragonwoods.org.uk/index.shtml try this place... you can let them know what sort of books you are looking for and they even have a scheme where they donate books to community groups. Maybe yours will qualify!!

Jayne why not check the catalogue of your local public library and then print out all the S/S books available on the library system, and copy it for all your members? It is a good idea to support your local library and encourage your members to join.
Private lending libraries in groups can be hard to administer if people don't bring books back or damage them. Also they take up a lot of space and that space may be better used for something else. Books need to be kept away from direct heat, damp and sun too.
So it might be better to just use the library you already have... support your public one!
Some libraries will still buy books in for readers who request them, and in all cases they will obtain them for readers on inter library loan, sometimes for a small charge.

Or you could have a collection of magazines etc which you don't mind if people don't return. For example Permaculture, The Ecologist, Resurgence etc.
Ask your group to bring magazines in to pass on to other members.

If you are willing to pay postage costs I have copy of Self Reliance by John Yeoman you could have.
pm me if you are interested.
