Another from Leicester

Post: # 15056Post Eco Worrier »

Hello. I've just signed on today, having discovered this site a few days ago. I think the "ish" part of the site name may fit me the best at the moment, but I'm great on the theory! Last spring I took on an allotment and had a wonderful first season. For a short amount of time I became sel-sufficient in courgettes, pumpkins, potatoes, courgettes, garlic, french beans, radishes, and - did I mention courgettes? I'm looking forward to growing even more this year (but possibly not the courgettes).
Would also like chickens - one day.

Hi Eco Worrier - glad you found us. I could have fed the 5000 with my courgettes last summer so I know the feeling!!! I 'only' had 4 plants for 2 of us!

Pumpkins - at least they store well and pumpkin pie is to die for. Not so sure whether courgette pie would have the same appeal.

Hi - welcome to the forum.

I've just got my seeds for this year - I don't think there are any courgettes  - that said, if they all work out well we could have a lot of tomatoes, chillies, beetroot, squash, sprouting brocolli etc etc... I think I went a bit mad.

Still, hopefully they will sell if we grow too much.

Hello Eco-Worrier; I like that name, too.

I also happened to notice last night, that Neil Innes is currently touring with a show called 'Ego-Warriors'. But I'm guessing you are not him.

Because you're as old as me, Nev, probably from the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band - most famous for 'The Urban Spaceman' - some sort of cutting edge of English humour. Also associated with Monty Python, and later The Rutles, and various other Python type spin offs (don't know how much of that you got in Oz). But also in his own right.

Thanks Stew!

Yes I do know his work, but funnily enough I remembered the name from the Puddle Lane days - we did get it here and I remember watching it with the kids when they were younger.

Hello everybody and thanks for the welcome.
I love pumpkin pie too. I did eat courgette muffins once, many years ago, in Canada - not that you could really taste them.
I know who Neil Innes is too, but am nothing to do with Ego Warriers!
I only found out about the Leicestershire group on here - sounds good.

Hi Eco worrier

I'm good at the worrying, too - but obviously not so good at growing courgettes! My two plants last year only produced two courgettes... But it might have been a one-off, the year before I had more.

Courgette cake is quite nice, b.t.w. - similar to carrot cake.
