corgettes
just as a matter off interest i was wondering what corgettes taste like as they look almost like cucumber and that is some thing i hate and if the taste different it might be some thing i would consider trying to grow if it isn't too late to sow them? if they are different tasting from cucumbers then could someone swap a few seeds for me?
Re: corgettes
I suggest you go and buy some courgettes to eat. It is the only way to tell if you like them.
They don't taste like cucumbers. I don't really enjoy them raw (though hey are OK with a dip) I chop them up and put them in tomato sauces, soups, I roast them in olive oil and have them with cous cous.
It isn't too late to plant them and if you can get yourself to lidl they have seeds for about 80p that are a simple variety for a first time grower. They are prolific and easy to grow and even easier if you have a bucket of manure for each plant.

Re: corgettes
They taste totally different. Slugs and snails love them as well. They'v had all ours already so we'll have to resow.
They also freeze well with a quick blanching.

Re: courgettes
I started mine off inside and planted them out with my (unpatented) invention to stop slugs and snails getting at them. Cut the bottom off a yoghurt pot, then cut tassles about 5mm wide and 2cm deep all around the bottom of the pot. Then bend the tassles over so that the pot looks like a sea anemone (yes, that is the correct spelling). Put the yoghurt pot over the young courgette plant and, unless your slugs and snails are in the S.A.S., you should have wonderful courgette plants growing all over your garden. Don't forget to give them LOADS of water (to complement the LOADS of manure that you planted them on).
