Rhubarb Jam

Post: # 152163Post MEL78 »

Just a quick one just to let everyone know that I have made my first ever jam (rhubarb and vanilla) and very successful it was too...for some reason I thought it would be difficult...can't wait for the fruit bushes to start producing so I can have another go....

Hi Mel, i've just posted a request for strawberry, rhubarb & ginger jam (before i saw your post). Perhaps you know of one?
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Sorry I am a complete novice but can recommend the rhubarb and vanilla one....I have a WI book from the library on jams and chutneys would recommend you try to takje it out its called Book of Preserves by the WI (and unlike my mother's old book it has up to date measurements no more trying to figure out gallons and cups and more bizare measurements)

Hope this helps

Yeah! Woo-hoo! I did it. My first home-made jam that's set without having add gelatine! Thanks, Mel, you're a star :thumbright:

I used 2lb of my own home-grown bub, and it made 4 jars, plus a little bit that got eaten straight from the pan while it was still warm, but thinking of the price I paid for the sugar and the vanilla pod, compared to the price of 4 jars of rhubarb and ginger jam (the nearest I could find quickly on the Sainsburps website), I reckon in that sense I've saved well over £5.00! OK, I wouldn't normally pay £1.79 for a jar of jam, but even the non-rhubarb jam that's about £1 a jar still gives me a saving over £2. Well chuffed! :king:
