I'll try again and copy it before I post this time! Unfortunately the hunters are exempt so Sundays in winter are ruined by rifle shots, barking dogs and general yahooing and horns, which is a right pain as we love our quiet Sundays here. It does take some getting used to it and was difficult at first when my OH was working in an office, because if it rains on Saturday you are stuffed as you just can't mow!

Where I currently live there are no rules (as far as I know) about what hours you can make a noise during the week (often you have to be quiet at lunchtime too! hey this is France! ) and occasionally someone will start up a mower on a Sunday or public holiday, often to be followed by several other people who also needed to do some mowing too!!! Tractors are exempt but most of the year the farmers don't work Sundays anyway.

Welcome Trisho.
I am new here also (from Canada). I've never been to Germany but it is definitely on the list of "places to go". As for Sunday closing, I miss that here. We just had a national holiday here yesterday and almost everything was closed for it. I love it when it goes nice and quiet and its just the sounds of people, children and dogs milling about. Now that we do business seven days a week, one day can really just blend into another as the pace never changes. I really wish we would bring back one day a week to not do business, just to be quiet and spend time at leisure or with family/friends.

schönen guten Tag,

i am german too and just recently moved.
Anyway...yes the Sunday is Germanys holy grale.
But in agreement to Inas post earlier on, i have to say that Germans just enjoy gardening just in the same intensity then the British do.
