None whatsoever, RD, other than to say they'll need to be seriously shade-loving and drought resistant.

Pachysandra is a ground cover plant that is often planted in public parks and gardens under the dense shade of trees.

As has been said you'll need shade & drough lovers...not an easy ask.

As for veg I would say that is a real no-no as all parts of the yew is toxic to humans. On the same theme, be VERY carefull when planting, weeding etc near these beautiful trees, as a scratch can be really nasty & often goes septic if not cleaned & treated with anti-septic cream or similar.

Is there any chance you coul post a photo of the area? Our local church yard has a yew avenue & plants the path edges with bedding ( not my fav either, but it looks pretty on wedding photos). The bedding is about 30cm (1ft) away from the canopy of the trees but is still refered to as 'under' by the gardeners.
