Hello there ,

wish you all the best , but you already have that , you have decided to move thats good .

We were in ROI for over 3 years , also in Connaught ,its lovely , but be aware of the kind and friendly people!
In our opinion they're very 2 faced and out for your money .For example go to the builders yard to buy in an old bangor ,
not in a big 4x4 , there will be a big price difference .Just by the car you drive !

With a little luck you should make it ,

regards ,

Paul

Thanks for the advice Paul. Although we'll only be driving an old banger anyway!

I remember as a kid, my Gran putting on her oldest coat when going to jumble sales....

Not yet Shamie, as I don't want to fall in love with a place only to see it sell before we're ready to make a serious offer. We should have this place ready to put on the market the first week of January & as soon as we have a firm offer we'll be on thre next ferry to look for our new home.

hi,hopw you find what your looking for, when we started looking we didn`t understand that the price advertised is not the price it sells for,its just to get you in,unlike in uk when you put your house on the market it sells for that price mostly, here you barter,we in the end rented for 18 months and found the place we wanted to be,it wasnt where we rented in the end, yet that was the place we thought we wanted to be,we ended up buying a plot and having a house built,it turned out much cheaper, but now with the drop in prices here and they are going to drop further as at the moment they are more people leaving ireland than coming in,
i might add ,i have a friend that swopped her ex council house in n.w uk for a bungalow here in kerry, they paid solicitors fee`s and it was a straight swop, perhaps you could look into that too?good luck shell

Thank-you for that, Shell, We will look into that very seriously!

We are very lucky in that we have several friends in the area where we are looking, some of whom are forum members here. We know we can rely on them for advice about specific properties as well as general area advice.

I couldn't agree with you more Shamie. As we found many two-faced sorts when we left Ireland for Canada. Unfortunately jerks are everywhere--they are usually highly represented in the retail/services sales sector. Luckily we kept an open mind and found some really nice people too. Just felt the need to add to that, I have already wished MW the best in her new adventure--Good Luck MW!

Just a little update:

I have listed loads of stuff on Real Cycle (our local ex-freecycle) and people are coming thick & fast to relieve us of it.

I've popped a couple of things on the Swap board here, as they may be of interest to ISHers. Please have a look.
