mince meat

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

mince meat

Post: # 177708Post Mr and Mrs luvpie »

Any one got a good recipe for mince meat? I threw some bits in a bowl today, but then took my mind off the job when I was tipping in the brandy, just sniffed the bowl in the fridge and it nearly took my eyebrows off. Is there anything I can do to save it, or should I just start again?

Also just how much alcohol cooks off, or if I save it and let the kids have the pies that follow will they just sleep really well

you could put it in a heat proof bowl and put it in a low oven for a bit, that will get the booze off. be sure to mix it around again before jarring

tbh i spect it would be fine anyway.. once cooked into pies.

ok then ladies thanks for that, I'll try a batch when the kids aren't here, having only had the occasional glass of spritzer (?) over the last 8 months, if it doesn't cook off I'll know :drunken: not to give it to the kids, although they would probably cope better with it than me
