New here from South Jersey Pine Barrens

Post: # 1950Post cyndeelouwho1972 »

Hello to all. I just found this forum and haven't had a chance to look around yet. I hope to find lots of information regarding foraging, food prep., plant identification. I am happily married with 4 children. I unfortunately have to work full time as my hubby is disabled, but at least he is home with the children. Our goal is to be as self sufficient as possible. I am not a fatalist nor do I beat the Revelation drum, just want to someday be off grid and dependant only on myself and family. I study when I can and learn much faster through communicating with others. I live in the Pine Barrens which is a very unique ecosystem. I served on the environmental commission but I don't enjoy politics AT ALL. I have a small piece of land, 3 acres, that backs to a wild life preserve. I raise hens for fresh eggs and am trying my hand at pheasants for meat. One day I will probably be a vegetarian because I am losing my taste for meat. I haven't eaten cow in 5 years. When I do crave a steak, it is buffalo or venison. I just started a 4-H group for my kids and friends to join in on learning horticulture. Together I hope to learn and teach. If anyone has ever been involved with 4-H, feel free to email me any tips or suggestions. I feel very stupid when it comes to this stuff and I welcome any knowledge people would like to share. Hope to meet new people and share whatever I can.

Hello cyndeelouwho1972

Welcome to the forum. Is that the south Jersey as in the US of A? I asume it is rather than the island of Jersey just off the south coast of England.

I also wondered what is a 4h group? It sounds to me that you can't be that stupid at this stuff with 3 acres of land and all the rest of your experience 8)

If you do want to ask any questions then have a look for the best place so that people will be more likely to anwser your post.

FORGOT TO BE SPECIFIC ON LOCATION

Yes South Jersey is in the USA. It actually the state of New Jersey, I live in the southern part of the state. 4-H is a organization similar to Boy Scouts with less politics and no gender separation. Boys and Girls work together in groups and the organization was stared as an agricultural group that expanded into just about any hobby or interest. I still haven't done all my homework on it as of yet so I am just as new to it as anyone else. The largely known for their animal husbandry programs for youth. My location in Jersey is rural compared to the rest of the state.
