Cutting Down on Supermarket shopping

Post: # 203626Post Milims »

Following on from the thread of a very similar title, I wondered if anyone had any websites where they buy their goodies, that they would like to share? I said on here a while ago that I was having real trouble finding a good place to buy locally produced and/or organic produce on line. Since then I have found www.foodlocalfood.co.uk who deliver to a large proportion of North Northumberland - the back end of no where as far as most are concerned! We have also discovered www.dovesfarm.co.uk where we can buy all our flour, either singly or in bulk.
So now it's your turn - start your recommendations!

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I'm sure most people up this way will already knowabout them but we buy a lot of our bulk ingredients - flour, nuts, pulses etc from here
http://www.highlandwholefoods.co.uk/ They're great, will deliver up to us in the wilds (all but their frozen and chiller goods) and they allow buying groups. I love them :hugish:

http://www.spiceworld.uk.com/

Especially more useful nowadays as we don't live near Indian and Chinese shops to get our spices from!

Lovely independent Chorley Health Food shop now do online delivery http://www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk/

Selling, well ... health foods, toiletries, supplements & remedies etc. The don't show everything on their website but can get most things if you ask them.

Nice veg boxes in North Lancashire from http://www.pyenannyhallnurseries.co.uk

and not somewhere to buy from but in the spirit of the post ...

http://www.tescopoly.org/index.php?opti ... e&Itemid=1 "Is an alliance of organisations concerned with the negative imacts of supermarket power." and is a good place to send people when you get fed up of answering the question "What's the matter with T****'s?"!

That reminds me - when we lived in Gtr Manchester we got a weekly delivery from a company called Northern Harvest - can't remember their web address.

Assuming they're still in business they were really good - everything from organic beef to loo rolls delivered on a set day each week or however often you required.

lembas is a wholefood coop that delivers within a 90 mile radius of sheffield.
they charge wholesale prices and are very cheap.

Long time coming this thread! Perhaps we should think about setting up something bigger to help people find alternatives to supermarkets.

Anyway.....
Well the friendliest and probally the best health food shop in Bristol is called Earthbound - http://www.earthboundbristol.co.uk/ its up on Cotham hill.

Then I tend to do a lot of shopping on Gloucester road, where Harvest - http://www.harvest-bristol.coop/home.htm they are the outlet for Essentials foods in Bristol. Of course there is the Farmers market on Saturdays at St Nicks and I hear on the waterfront there are to be a whole host of markets.
