Hello from Moray in NE Scotland!
Hi there folks, Mr and Mrs Reid here from Forres in Moray, Scotland.
We've been inspired and excited about growing our own food and being as self suffcient as possible ever since we completed our Permaculture Design Course in Australia 7 years ago. Since then we've been lucky enough to work and live on organic farms in Oz and Portugal putting our PDC into practice.
Right now we are living in an ex council house with quite a good sized garden. When we moved in (Feb 2010) there was nothing but lawn and a month later we either dug the grass up or covered it in several inches of mulch and cut out several keyhole beds, raised beds, a pond and built a herb spiral. We then sowed as much veg and herb seeds as we could! Most of this is in our back garden away from the main street but we did put some spuds in the front lawn which has brought mixed views from the neighbours! We've managed to get hold of lovely organic horse manure and a bale of straw which we keep in the shed and use as mulch (we usually always sheet mulch). With the veg growing very well (considering they are growing in soil that was lawn for years and years!) and giving us veg a-plenty (just harvesting cabbages, broccoli, carrots....), our worms happy in their worm farm(giving us plenty of rich casts and worm tea!) and our dehydrator working on full whack preserving our fruit and herbs we are now waiting on the next cog to our Permaculture wheel - Chickens! We're finding them a bit hard to track down actually but hopefully we'll have them soon!
We also love making hedgerow wine and beer, making jam, sowing , making music. Would be great to 'meet' folks on here and chat about all the lovely stuff we do!

Welcome to Ish
And if you fancy a day out to help/advise me in creating my forest garden you'd be very welcome
(just joking).

Hi there and welcome

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Hi folks, many thanks to you all for the lovely welcoming - looking forward to digging into this site and learning more from you all. Would love to know more about any Forest Garden/Permaculture projects in N Scotland! We'll see if we can get some pics up too, if we can work that out? Cheers again!
