Newbie saying Hello

Post: # 209635Post Bramble »

Hello

Just found this site when I was looking for tips for cooking on a logburner and a great thread from this forum came up on the search.

I live on the west coast of Scotland at the moment, fairly remote as we live in a tied cottage an estate in the highlands where my husband works. we like to be as self sufficient as possible, but we are limited to what we can do as it's not our own property and have to live within the estates "rules".
Of course the dream would be a little croft in the middle of nowhere and chickens and a cow etc etc... but that's unlikely to happen although when we win the lottery I'll let you all know
In the meantime, we live as much of the lifestyle as we can.

at the moment we've got an old mk1 Rayburn in the cottage we're currently housed in, which is fantastic as I do 90% of my cooking on it and it heats the water and provides background heating for the cottage. However early next year we're going to probably move to another estate cottage which will have a gas cooker and a log burner... hence me looking up tips on cooking on a logburner.
Anyway that's me reported in with my Hello to all of you.. :salute:
looks an interesting forum hoping to get some good tips

Hi Bramble and welcome to Ish! From much further down South!! I did lots of cooking on a woodburner before I got a cooker in Portugal. I found a lot of the one pot recipes were useful!A trivet came in very handy to stop stuff burning!
