How funny - there we were in a hide (bird watching) in Spain with just a solitary Frenchman in there when I smelt him lighting up. I wouldn't smoke in a hide with other people there but hell it was Spain after all where you can still smoke in most restaurants. Anyway thought it was Gauloises or something then looked up and noticed he was smoking a pipe! First time I've seen that in absolutely yonks. And for once it actually smelt quite nice, not like the cloying sweet tobacco at all.

I've decided to go "solo", & am seeing a nurse on Thurs for patches etc. Jackie feels like i am pressurising her to quit, so we had a good talk & she's prepared for me to be a grumpy pumpy for a few days!!!!

Had my last ciggie on May 9th....... everything is fine & i feel so much better (as in easier breathing, etc). Jackie still smokes, (not indoors, as we have'nt done so for a couple of years now) & it does'nt bother me at all. I'm not food-picking (apart from the occasional "buscuit-fest"!) so i have'nt converted into a tub of lard yet!......... oh, & we are financially slightly better off. Can't think of any negatives So if you are thinking about packing up, give it some serious thought........ believe me, if i can do it after nearly 40 years, then anyone can. All the best Andrew

Well done Pumpy. I'm smoking over 20 a day again for the first time in about 4 years but I've got reasons why I'm stressed out at the moment. I also smoke outside so I smoke more in summer than winter anyway.

Well done Pumpy! My husband still smokes and I have to say that he stinks!!!! I quite like the smell of fresh smoke but stale smoke smells absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that I used to smell like that! It's things like that the give me the willpower to keep going

Bloody hell, this was a thread an a half!!!! If I here alan carrs name again I may just scream or reach for a fag!!! Lol I am a secret smoker, the only person who truely knows is my hubbie and now u lot!!! I have given up twice before and I've gotta do it again. After hubby was made redundant and all the stress that came with that I fell of the band wagon trying to convince myself, it was just one. Now when we need money the most I find myself back secret smoking. I will give up again as shamefully I found myself telling my son today that we couldn't afford for him to go to after school club today. It costs £2 for him to go, I'd just been to the garage and spent 2.73 on 10 fags. How wrong is that? The problem I hav always had is that I enjoy havin a fag, quiet time on my own to contemplate lifes goings ons, very much my security blanket. For the sake of my kids, I will give up again. I'm like a stupid teenager trying to hide it!!!! Xx

Ah,well...... i fell off the wagon recently, but i blame my wife!!!!! Unfotunately she just can't pack up, and so i know there is baccy in the house, and it constantly plays on your mind. (a bit like the old "Chinese water torture"!). Back to the drawing board!
