how big is 25kg flour?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

how big is 25kg flour?

Post: # 216836Post Rosendula »

I'm thinking of buying flour in bulk so that I can cut out the stupormarket even more. The only way I can do it is if I match or beat the price I currently pay, so that means buying a big 25kg sack. The problem with that is where to store it; our little house is already full to bursting point. So can anyone tell me how big a 25kg sack of flour actually is, either in measurements, or in comparison to something (like, is it the same size as the 25kg sack of mixed corn I get for the chickens? I'm guessing it will be smaller due to the flour being smaller than grains). Thanks :flower:

We buy flour in 25kg sacks too and yes they are about the size of a sack of chicken feed. We store them in a 25litre brewing bucket. There is a bit left over but that fits into a large tupperware. If you can't find a 25 litre bucket you could ask around at local food places that have mayonnaise - they usually buy it in big buckets - I ask for those to store my 10kilo sacks of rice! You really do need something sealed to store it in so that you don't end up with weavels

Good point, Milims. I never thought of that. That's something I need to get sorted before I go buying a huge load. Thank you :)

I have a question: Where do you buy a 25kg sack of flour? As hubby is the bread maker of the house, I think it would be a great idea for us too to get the flour at a cheaper price.

We buy ours from SUMA http://sumawholesale.com along with the bulk of our shopping. The minimum order for the wholesale site is £250. We buy in bulk from them once every 2 months along with a couple of friends and meet the minimum order that way.

I use nappy buckets to store all our bulk bought dry food, they come with a seal able lid to keep it all dry.

Thank you for the addresses where you buy your flour. I have looked at both and they probably won't work for me, but this certainly gave me the idea to look if I could get some flour in bulk to cut the price down. If I find anything interesting, I will report back here.

I did wonder about buying flour etc in bulk too - it seems a huge outlay all at once. However, we live 8 miles fron the nearest town and use quite a lot of four - probably something like 6lb per week of bread flour at least. If I add the cost of transport to town to the cost of the flour, along with the inconvenience of having to go and the time taken, the yuck of the stupour market - I'd much rather buy in bulk on line!

Hi

These guys are great for Bulk ( 500g - 1kg) herbs and spices.

I do work for them on the accountancy side of things, so if this is seen as advertising I apologise!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
