Gardening mags anyone ?

Post: # 224205Post sarahkeast »

Just wondering if anyone out there subscribed or brought gardening mags ? Guess it is the impatient desire to be 'doing stuff' that has led me to ask. I occasionally look at the offerings in Co-op, but nothing grabs my attention enuf to justify the ££!

Any recommendations ?

We were given a subscription to Gardening Which for Christmas. I have always read my parents copy so they decided to get us our own. Bit mainstream but you do get some good ideas, new varieties etc.

I love Home farmer, and Grow Your Own and also Permaculture magazine. Home farmer is really good for cooking and building things and animal husbandry. I like GYO for reminding me when to sow and plant what. PM is really interesting and different, and covers green issues if you are interested.

We stopped buying gardening magazines several years ago mainly because we found articles were continually being repeated.

These days we stick to our very comprehensive range of gardening books which in the main have been bought from charity shops.

I get Permaculture Magazine online. When I do my monthly shopping I look at the gardening mags but only buy if they have good freebies - in the past few months I've had a free raised bed kit, seed potatoes as well as loads of seeds. We'll never have to buy radish seeds again!

I get a few 3rd hand via my MIL sometimes. I liked a copy of kitchen garden I read and yes am particularly appreciative this time of year when I'm fed up of waiting to plant things!

Also don't mind the one that's like a newspaper, garden news I think it's called? Though to be honest I think it just tickles me that it's a newspaper but about gardening. I can pretend to be super-serious when I'm reading it
