NEW - Forester

Hi all

Not much of a self sufficient person - but am heading that way - living in the Forest of Dean.

I found this forum after seeing an Elderflower Champagne recipe online - I dont have any experiences to share - however as i glean them from others - I can pass them on again :-)
Producing your own stuff is a great feeling - I have only just started and Ive only looked at alcoholic stuff - but Im sure it will lead to other things.

Are people interested in methods that you have found for yourself even if the subject has been covered before?

Hi,just joined,love the site,can see its going to be very friendly and informative. I'm experimenting with alcohlic recipes,my latest is a strawberry and blackcurrant vodka liqueur. Need something to help keep warm while camping,well thats my excuse anyway.Considering getting some hens,maybe rescue ones.Anyone had any experiences of rescuing battery hens they can share? :

"owe bist ole'butty" - a little *authentic* forest there - you don't find much of our secret language on the internet.

I've just joined up too, been browsing this site for a while, got loads of useful tips off here- so about time I contributed back something I think. Got some lovely pics of some Chicken of the woods that I foraged the other week- found 4 fruiting sites this year : )

So yea, lets hope more foresters find out about this site- it's such a great place to live, and if you're interested in self-sufficient-ish / foraging there really isn't anywhere better to live in the whole country... in my experience anyway, not wanting to start a habitat-face-off or anything.

Hi apophate - ow bist......haha I love it - foresters get everywhere - I came across the site for the home brew side of things but its like an addiction with all this stuff on yer - are you gonna share your fruiting sites :-) I need a good place for sloes - I found some in Lydney towards the docks but I think the farmer may cut them before October - Near Cheltenham Racecourse is the best site Ive found for them but somewhere closer would be nice

Oooh, thanks for the tip on the sloes, maybe I'll see you there later this year? Last year a group of us found some near Cirencester but that's probably a bit of a way for you too.

No Probs Zoe - another good place if you head toward cheltenham from your area - when you get to the air balloon - head toward oxford (cheltenham road) - when you get to the seven springs find the footpath that takes you up Leckhampton Hill (left at the roundabout and just up the country lane) - as you walk up there - there are loads - ( I used to to live in Cheltenham for a short while - there are a lot of sites) - the racecourse sites are the fields towards cleeve hill and prestbury
