The murder trial of three Afghan-Canadians accused of drowning four relatives in a so-called “honour killing” came to a cathartic end Sunday afternoon as the defendants were convicted on all charges.

Before the trio were led away in handcuffs and shackles to begin automatic sentences of life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for 25 years, each proclaimed their innocence, and they were visibly upset.

I know the area well and one sure has to work to even get access to that particular area with a vehicle. It is on the Rideau Canal built by the British in about 1832 to have access to the remainder of the colony if the US blocked the St Lawrence River. The 123-mile long Rideau Canal was built as a military route and incorporating 47 locks. It is now used as a recreational route and is very beautiful. The stone work is amazing used on the locks with wooden often hand operated gates. It runs from Ottawa (River) to Kingston, the beginning of the St Lawrence and the East end of Lake Ontario. In 2007, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
