DIY automatic coop door opener

Post: # 253812Post Bristolbelle »

Now that the days are starting to get lighter. We have been looking into buying an automatic door opener for the chicken coop. Not having a spare £100, my OH came up with a DIY version that opens using a timer via the mains. With spare wood and an old electric screwdriver. He came up with something just over £10. You can see the pictures on my blog. i'm so chuffed

Wow! So glad I found your post. I'd love an automatic door opener for my girls. I'm not an early bird and they are! Had a look at your lovely blog - your hen house is gorgeous.

Regards
Michelle

Thankyou everyone, He is a gem. I usually start with a " wonder if this is possible?" Question. And then a little while longer he comes up with something.

What a clever idea!
Just because you see two eyes shining in the jungle at night, do not think that the worse thing that could happen is that you are about to be attacked by a tiger. It could be two one-eyed tigers.

It looks brilliant. I bought an automatic opener/closer a few years ago and put it in the garage for installing when I had a handyman around. I know it's there somewhere, but I just can't find it and I feel I've looked everywhere. Buxxer, buxxer, buxxer!

Wow, that's really impressive! And so is your blog, have bookmarked.

I am afraid we caved and forked out the £100 - not having one single DIY skill between us.
