Hi, I came across your website a few years ago when looking for hedgerow foraging. As I use the excellent information I thought I would join the forums and hopefully be able to give something back - who knows!

I don't have a huge garden but I do live in a rural area with a sheep and cattle farm surrounding the house. I keep chickens (currently 4 plus two bantams) only for eggs as I am strict vegetarian. I spend as much time as I can being outdoors, although my vegetable gardening is rather hit and miss dependent on how busy I have been at work during seed planting time. I love basket weaving and have just made my first basket from my own grown willow. Every bit of space I have is now given over to this lovely plant! I also enjoy learning how to use green woods to make things such as hurdles, brooms and spoons. I practise natural crafts such as dying from plants and spinning using a drop spindle as part of the Anglo-Saxon/Viking re-enactment group to which I belong.

Next on my list to experiment with is country wine making and bee keeping, so I might be needing some advice on these very soon. :sunny:

Hi there and welcome to our forum. :wave:

I used to know Lydden quite well back in the sixties when I was involved in motorcycle racing.
Lydden and Brands Hatch were our local tracks. Great times. :iconbiggrin:

Marshlander - I totally concur with your signature: books, a garden, and I might add a glass of wine (just starting to brew my own!).
Odsox - the circuit is still going strong. My son is in to his cars so he regularly pops over there; just half a mile walk.

Hi Battybird! A barn in Portugal - that sounds intriguing. Is it habitable? What is the growing like over there? I have never been to Portugal and imagine it to be sunshine all year round :flower:

Yes the barn is habitable...now! Been a big project. the growing is good in our area, but we have not been able to grow as we are not over there enough to harvest or water what we plant. The neighbours use quite a bit of our land and give us veg etc when we go over. Got grapes and olives which the neighbours harvest and give us as wine and oil! We did help with their harvest last year as we were around. Weather is hotter in summer, starts spring earlier but still gets very cold at night in Feb, march. Hopefully once OH health is better, we can go out more often and grow our own veg. attach a photo of barn from "other side" of land (where our water source is)
Have an allotment in Uk which keeps us busy.
