...But after a bit of research I think they are probably Guelder Rose. Can I have a second opinion?

Wikipedia says it is edible in small quantities, but mildly toxic....does anyone know roughly how toxic, and are the toxins less harmful after cooking (as with Rowan berries)? Has anyone got any advice about cooking with them?
I thought I might have found red currents...

Re: I thought I might have found red currents...
It does look like Guelder Rose and red currant it is certainly not.
I don't think I would bother with it. It is supposed to be very acidic and will make you vomit if you eat too much of it (interesting question, how much is too much).
It looks pretty on the bush, so perhaps best left there? pity, but better safe than sorry...
Some elderberries and blackberries can still be found here and there, which makes a jam or sirup you can use without vomiting.

Probably is viburnum opulus yes, red currants fruit in strings rather than bunches, and have a much more distinct look as a plant.
Plus they all finished fruiting a month or so ago, time of year is usually a good guide.

thanks both for confirming what I thought.
Jandra, I agree it's not worth getting ill over so i'll leave them alone...
Unfortunately most of the elderberries and blackberries round my way are gone now, but i've seen lots of rosehips so at least I have those to look forward to soon!
