Post: # 249975Post demi »

where can i buy sugar beet seeds from to grow to make my own sugar??

also has anyone else done this? is it worth it? does the sugar turn out the same as shop bought sugar?

i know they make sugar in the uk from sugar beet and the left overs get put into animal feed.

Beets are a biennial plant, so they only produce seed in the second year after sowing. This can make seed saving difficult as you must keep the beet root alive through the winter months so it can produce seed the next summer. Digging up the root and storing it in a safe place protects it from winter cold and makes saving beet seeds simpler.

You have to grow it first, though, to get the plant to allow to go to seed. But that sounds like you've actually got some, Leander82. You could make yourself EVER so popular on here with a few people if you offered a bit of that seed.

Don't think so Mike, this is a sly spammer who hasn't pounced yet with whatever product or site they plan to promote.

That goes for the other 2 posts they have made too.

Hi, I have just purchased sugar beet seeds from 'The Sustainable Seed Company" in the US .... due to the high cost of posting a few packets I ordered extra so if anyone wants any I have unopened 1gram pkts which contain roughly 130 seeds .... the price works out at £3.50 a pkt, free postage to addresses in the UK If anyone is interested
