THE FUTURE OF ISH

Post: # 279800Post MKG »

OYEZ, OYEZ, OYEZ.

Lookee, lookee, lookee.

ISH TO UNDERGO CORRECTIVE THERAPY.

Whether you're an old hand or a total newbie, you've probably noticed that our dearly beloved Ish has not been behaving itself of late. The site is not at all well and members have been drifting away. However, help is at hand.

Most of you are probably aware that, around about last October, Andy Hamilton (one of the two people who started the whole thing off) moved on to more pressing things, not the least of which was being a father. His brother (and twin brother to boot and the other of those two people) Dave took over. Dave migrated the database to a server closer to home but, in the process, it suffered major corruption. Unfortunately our long-suffering Site Geek John Headstrong - he who had given a home to Ish on his own server since its inception - was left behind in that process and so couldn't do anything to help. Dave, in the way of twin brothers, also became a father and so simply could not spend as much time and effort on the site as he would have wished. The upshot was what you see - logging-in problems, site breakdown, loss of archive information, measles ... you know the stuff. Finally, Dave has also felt it necessary to call time on his Ish involvement.

Huge congratulations, then, to the two Hamilton families, and grateful thanks for everything the twins have done for Ish. You'll be missed, although I'm sure we'll see you popping in from time to time.

Which brings us to the present and its attendant problems. I needn't list what those problems are as you've all probably suffered from them to some extent. But we thought that you might like to know that something positive is being done. The Ish site is returning to the tender care of John Headstrong, and he is going to take on the somewhat frightening task of repairing it. But he's the only person who can do that so it's going to take time, and it's going to mean occasional downtime for the site. We will do our utmost to give you warnings in good time if any such thing is about to happen, and any absence of Ish will be kept to the minimum possible.

We do not yet know exactly when the changeover to John will happen, but it should be in the very near future. Please bear with us as the site goes through these changes. We will keep you all informed of events and, fingers crossed, we will soon have Ish back, stronger than ever, running smoothly, being the nice place to be it always has been in the past.

Thanks for the update Mike. where's the like button when you need one

Only just back after going AWOL, life and all that. So missed all the problems.

Good luck to John with the migrate of the database, hope it all goes well.

Oh and congratulations to the Hamilton brothers on their new arrivals.

Thanks for the info - I seem to be able to log in again now so that's a great improvement

Hello,

I'm still too new to know who everyone is, but thanks for taking on the site and keeping it going. I'm learning a lot just from reading the old threads.

Thanks Andy. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that what we all want is that the site returns to what it used to be. And of course, anyone called Hamilton (with the exception of anyone called Neil) will, I'm sure, be eternally welcome. This forum would never have existed without you two and, no matter how things turn out, the famous TWINS will always be the DADDIES.

Yes we do need a LIKE button. Got so used to it from... elsewhere  ....... sometimes you don't want to actually say anything, or can't think of anything to say, but are in agreement and want to acknowledge it, and liking does that for you.

Maybe a "like" bottom with an extra smiley as well?

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
